So how are these r spec gauges connected? Do they just use the existing wiring from the ecu map sensor?

just a switched live with ignition and a wire to the lights, it comes with it's own sender unit, you just plumb any vac line to it :thumleft:

jon wrote:I replaced the circuit board that drives the stock boost gauge with my own board with an AVR. The boost gauge is much more responsive now and it's now calibrated exactly how I want it to be. It's driven from the same MAP sensor signal the ECU uses for fuelling so it's give a good indication of what boost the ECU is actually seeing :D

I was planning on making the software and hardware open source if anyone is interested?

I don't actually own an mr2 turbo anymore (moved sideways to an st205) but, yes definitely!
I suspect the mr2/st205 boost driver boards were similar. I did plan something like you have done, but ended up fabricating a manual boost gauge into the space where the OEM gauge sits, using the standard scale so the only give away is the non OEM red needle.

Another one that can be made to fit in the stock location is the VDO 'vision black' series. Needle matches stock and the lighting is through the gauge, like stock.
