From the MOTuk website 
'The catalyst test is part of the MOT test for most class IV spark ignition petrol engined passenger cars with four or more wheels first used on and after 1 August 1992.'
I would say that implies when the car was registered, not built. Can't you just keep hold of the cat and put it on for the MOT?

There is always some delay as to when its built and when its registered.
My 86NA isn't registered until May 1986 but was built in January 1986.
In your case yours has crossed over to the later registration.-

Just to let you know i have advised my MOT station that my car was built in June 1992 and they are going to MOT it without the cat !
!
