2nd Gear crunch

is yours a REV1 as REV2+ had ungraded 2nd gear synchro's put in

And...?

Simple question asked

Not everyone knows Toyota upgraded the 2nd gear scnchros in REV2's. So should he have had a REV1 then instead of buying another naff REV1 box he could look for the upgraded REV2 Box.

when selecting 2nd gear more often than not i get a crunchy gear selection.

But if revs are low enough it just slides straight in.

only happens with 2nd, no other gears. does this sound like the same sort of problem?

Sounds like the same problem to me. If I go accelerate hard in 1st and go into 2nd it crunches but if I'm very careful and let the revs drop and put it into second it doesn't crunch.

Hope you get it sorted mate, nothing more disheartening than a dodgy gearbox, ruins all enjoyment of the car

agreed ..my 3rd gear syncro on downshift is horrible...but ive just got used to double de clutching which completly eliminates it. was a pain to start with but ive got in the habit of it now

Double declutching only works for so long though - I wore a 3rd gear synchro down to the point where the only way to not get it to crunch going into 3rd was to go 2nd > clutch in > 4th > 3rd > clutch out

Lucky for me ? the car got written off before I had to sort it!
