That is an issue, they're not brilliant for folks over 6 ft.

I know the feeling, i bought my mk3 about a month ago now and love, it, i took a deposit on my mk1 yesterday and although i will miss it the mk3 more than makes up for it. To me its like a modded mk1 for the modern age

Chris - I'm just over 6ft, and with the seat all the way back its fine - no compromise on the seating position. I used to find tracking the Mk2 Turbo I'd clonk my head on the roof at times, but no problems in the Roadster with the hard top on.
To drive - a standard Mk3 does 'feel' very like a Mk1, and I'm sure all the Mk1 owners will feel at home straight away.
The 2zz may be tempting, but a turbo ( or Turbo'd 2zz ) is the way to go ...

I remember trying one for size when they first came out and found them a bit cramped.
Maybe when the Mk1 falls apart I'll transplant the MZ into a Mk3.

I did this but the other way round,I swapped a MK3 for a MK1 about 4 or 5 years ago! I do miss the MK3 but then it was for a very special MK1,in an ideal world I'd have both

I test sat 2003 Mk3 today and was somewhat pleasantly surprised that it's not that much smaller inside than my -89.
But the lack of luggage space is ridiculous - Mk1 is a station wagon compared to Mk3. Unless I missed something - spare tyre was in the frunk.

Yeah it's just the storage bins behind the seats and the frunk really!
I've done a whole weekend camping with that space though, so it's more spacious than it looks, and definitely not much off a MK1.

Thanks guys.
Tempted about the Mk3 as I find myself in a situation where a friend wants to buy my -89 for his son. Just scared about the Mk3 motor problems and need to study that matter more. A lot more.
Importing from say Germany would be quite affordable.

I had a mk3 it was OK... Woudnt buy another one, they feel cheap when your in them and very un-special everything rattles and eventually breaks off... Put it this way, im on my second tubby at the moment but i doubt many people own more than 1 mk3, you have it, you sell it, your glad its gone..

We certainly don't all feel like that.

not what i think in fact im never selling mine as it will be my coffin.
also engine problems im afraid to say on the early ones are common but the revision models are alot better to the point i have not heard of any issues with anything over an 05 plate. there is alot of info on mr2roc about the issues just use its search bar.

Maybe i was to harsh on the old Mk3... IMO its a bit limp wristed... Its very of our times... Cars are becoming less and less fun hence the fact they dont even make an MR2 any more.. But while it might not be my favorite MR2 its is a VERY good car.. The handling is EPIC.. If i was going to buy another one though i would buy an early model with a wasted engine and slap a v6 in ...

yes they are a bit lacking in the power department, hence my fully built 1.93L 1zz with turbo.
then it makes life a bit more fun

G'day fellas, Peter here from the states. Went the reverse route 2 Mk3's to my 1991 rev2 turbo. I absolutely love the Mk3's as ive went through two of em. Reliablility, fun, easier to work with, removable body panels, Hardtop.
The mk2 does have the power and popular for "used" parts and aftermarket though...just tends to have more things break/get old hence older car...
Still love ALL MR2's

I was looking for a while and have now got one mileage is a bit high but full toyota service history, hard and soft top. Apart from the storage space I think I prefer it to the mk1 in a lot of ways and im trying to resist changing the springs and wheels and tyres. I gave £1100 for it on a Y plate and it drives like new except for a few bits of plastic creaking

It took a lot of looking and as with buying my 944 a few years ago it wasn't the right colour and didn't have leather but as soon as I saw it I knew it was a good car. Its just had front a rear bumpers painted but slightly off colour but has a full service history. The seller had it up for £1500 but I somehow knocked him down as he hadn't had any calls on it. Its just crying out for me to wreck it by lowering and changing the wheels [/img]
