Excellent news...do not forget to add it to the KB.

I have been talking with the other admins and something I would like to see happen is for the user of this site to come up with a list of must wanted articles and then to offer prizes to people how take the time to produce photo how-to's..

In the meantime here's what's in the EPC with some standard bits that look like they come with it...

does anyone know if they really make that much difference? Sounds like a nice cheap modification if it works!

I have to say i have my doubts, BUT looking round showrooms recently you'd be surprised how many new vehicles have them fitted as standard.

They're not plastic, they're rubber-ish. And how long would it take you to knock up something similar that follows the contour of the wheel arch?

ah, i was confused, i thought these were say 8" x 4" plastic bits attached infront of the wheel, didnt realise they were a whole moulding inc the wheel arch..

They don't include the wheel arch, mate. There's just a rib in the wheelarch, and these deflectors follow that contour so that they seal against the arch. They *are* basic things, but to try and knock something up from scratch that would look reasonably ok would be a false economy IMHO.

You've got to wonder whether the time spent is actually worth less than just buying them. Normally, that's how I personally compare prices on things that I could make myself. I look at the price, look at how many hours it would cost me to make one, and if the cost to buy the thing ready is considerably cheaper than my time to make it I just go ahead and buy it! ;)

thats very true, i have still to get out of the student mentality of i can make stuff cheaper, especially now earning a good wage, 32 quid seems like a bargain, it would take me a day to knock something up that works well.

i might have a look though, not really looked at the contour shape to be fair, i still dont know my way around the 2 very well and i only use it at weekend..(only had it 2-3 weeks) only noticed the fog lamp and bumper have slight cracks in them the other day.. dammit..

a colleague here mentioned your name as a knowledable source to watch out for on imoc, from back when he had his rev 2 tubby (rich from near coventry)... and he seems to be pretty right so far..

LOL, I do, but in another role (ie IT).

No, seriously, I just don't like to blow my own trumpet. You can never know enough, IMHO. I just keep plugging away and am constantly learning. Luckily, I've got some of the best engineers to learn from. :)

Just bought them ... and they're bendy
just like a mudflap!
It appears that you need to drill into the back part of the front splitter to screw one hole in  Hmm, bit too hard for self tappers :-k

Did anyone get round to doing this write up, or at least confirming the part nos for the fixings that we need?

As someone mentioned, on a model that didn't have them originally, holes need to be drilled into the plastic arches, and no self tapper will work here, so it seems that it needs a screw and a back-fitting for this to work. I've already tried to go by part nos in the EPC but seemed to have got supplied the wrong ones, and fittings are easy to explain to Mr T - if you haven't got the right part nos, you're pretty stuck.

I've got to go to my local Mr T today, so if anyone has these part nos handy, that would be great!

The part no's are quite confusing.
From the EPC posted here I just ordered the bits that looked like screws/bolts with a (2) next to the part number. I ordered 4 of these and ordered that 'bush' (middle hole) just to see what comes. The middle hole of the flap does already have a polo shaped 'bush' already in the hole, but from the EPC it looks like this hole isn't used :?
Frank Galloway has these on his car as std.....Frank where are you !!

right... I'm back with pics...

couldn't take them off sorry as I'm a bit rushed tonight... but took the following pics anyway.

pic1.
as you can see the wind deflecter does go right the way across the front wheel arch trim with three screw used.
Image

pic2.
if you look closely the first screw has one of those retainers behind the wind deflector to take the thread of the screw.
Image
ector

pic3.
shows the 3 screws holding the deflector across the whole width of the arch liner
Image

pic4.
looking down at the deflector from inside the wheel arch.. you can just make out again the retainer for the first screw behind the deflector.
Image

pic5.
finally a look from the underneath at the front to show how far down they go.. again you can see they do fit across the entire width of the wheel arch trim
Image

I hope that helps you guys out a bit ??...

cheers
Frank.

Cheers for that Frank, but earlier on I looked at the flaps against the car, and I've got a couple of questions.

Take a look at this first pic, showing the flap and the bolt (which incidentally is part no 90159-60523). Note how the bolt is not a self-taper, so obiously needs something threaded to screw into. The thing is, from the EPC, I can't make out which of these 2 bits it is:

90387-10166 (EPC says 2 off)
90387-07032

Anyway, pic below:
