I got back a couple of hours ago. It was my first JAE and I really enjoyed it, didnt talk to too many people though, I was there with Luke, Mark, Jim and Paul, and martin who was with the celica owners. Had a great laugh huddling round the bbq's by our tents on saturday night and was good to meet paul (axisofunity) and his girlfriend :-)

Kinda wish we'd done a bit more mingling now though, just didnt seem to be enough time in the weekend.

Nice to see that mine was (I think) the only MR2 at the show with the TRD rear wing :-0

Craig,

Basically, IMOC is a club which relies on the involvement of its members in events - by getting involved, you get to put something back in for what you may have gained over the year(s) as well as meeting people in real life.

Many people put a lot of time and effort into helping with JAE this year - both in preparation for the event (orgnaisers meets etc) as well as turning up on Friday to setup, be around over the weekend as helpers and help pack up today, even staying in the torrential rain - their help is much appriciated.

Its a shame you didn't feel you could contribute to the event and didn't join us on the IMOC stand.

It didn't have the buzz of Billing, probably just because it was all a bit unfamiliar. and maybe a bit too spread out. and a bit wet! but all those things will get better :)

I dried out on the drive home. Was almost tempted to take my waterlogged jeans off before setting off. But needed to refuel!

The roads were very wet on the way back, I did a big unintentional tail-out slide coming off a roundabout in 2nd. :o

I drove the F1 simulator with all the assists off. Made it round a lap but spun and stalled. where's the starter... doh! Oh and I won a Toyo boonie hat. and thanks to MrJu for the ride in the mk1.5, impressed, those things really are mental!

In regards to the contribution by members, I tried with the spec sheets, FAQ and getting there on Friday to be one of the people who set up the marquee (My girlfriend was riding around on a poor soul's shoulders to get things tied down!)

I think IMOC should've charged members another £5 each and this would've bought us BBQs, food, booze & maybe most importantly a sense of shared responsibility?

May I also suggest setting the gazeebo's up on the stand next time to double as more cover incase of rain and more of an incentive for us to stay on the stand at night and then make our way back to the tents, rather than have the tents camped around the gazebo? The Marquee had cover for many more people and it would've looked much better having lights and BBQs there rather than in the top end of the field...

Good idea?

what can i say? Thanx for your support, mucho appreciated.

I worked hard all weekend and just like Toni, didn't get more than a brief half hour on saturday morning to whizz round which i only got to do because i needed to find Patrick for the IMOC t-shirts.

I think it is true that the IMOC stand could have been laid out better but tbh Ben, Toni and I were pretty busy keeping everything going smoothly and though we had a great amount of help from the members Toni mentioned (mucho thanx) there were some notable absences which could have made life a bit easier and possibly resulted in a more imaginative layout.

I tried hard to meet new people and the regulars on the forum that i haven't met in person, but it is difficult when you bump into a lot of familiar faces as well keeping things running smoothly..

I have to say i am pretty shocked at some of the posts i'm reading considering the effort that went into JAE from some of the admin team this year.

A mega thanx to Chris (limey), Chris Isle and GF, Anna and Alex, Malcolm, Paul Port and anybody else i've missed out (you know who you are) as we couldn't have done it witout you.

Yep good points and in hindsight i guess we could have done this. I very much appreciate all your help with all the preliminaries as well as at JAE. We really need to get an events organiser sorted or perhaps a dedicated person for JAE.

I think we will take some important lessons with us for next year.

hey its what you make of it.i was with the mk1 lot but you seemed to have a good turnout from where we were. how can you judge if you only stay a couple of hours? my thoughts were you were a bit "straight liney"with the layout.good turn out by the mk1s as well which was nice.
shame more didnt go on in the arena though, such a waste.

I put the car on the stand 9o'clock Sat morning and stood with the car for a few hours, nobody came over and introduced themselves. I should maybe have made efforts to mingle but I didn't know who anybody was, I recognised a few cars (Bry's, Mark Edwards but didn't know who they were :( , sorry I didn't meet you guys. The only people I knew where the ones we travelled down with. IMOC was had a big stand but it was full of small groups. We did have an exellent weekend, some of the cars on display were out of this world and th mk1 owners club were very friendly.

Sorry if this offends anyone but I was disappointed I couldn't put names and faces to people I had spoken to online.

Maybe a meet and greet would be a good idea next year with a time that people will know when to be on the stand perhaps it would feel more like a club for everyone that is a member of the site. Just a suggestion

The Mk1 lot had a good layout today - but we tried today to be a bit less 'Liney'. Then everyone started wussing out cos of the rain - me and Phil included- however when we left there were more Mk1s than Mk2s - so who's the hardest eh???!!

hmm :-k i think (from the talking-to that he got from you) that i know who you are partly aiming this at. What exactly do you get out of hurting peoples feelings and ruining their weekends? (which you did by the way)

some people on here need to take a step back and remember that this is a car club and that no one member, admin or otherwise has the right to boss someone else around and make them feel bad for not helping when they already contribute to the club in other ways (and do a damn good job at it too! without offending people)

This is not a personal attack as i'm not that stupid. but please think about it and maybe learn to bite tongues before speaking.

I'd just like to say a big thanks to all of the people we met over the weekend, made it a great weekend (and our first JAE), despite having my phone thieved and getting soaking wet taking the Marquee apart.

Maybe a meet and greet would be a good idea next year with a time that people will know when to be on the stand perhaps it would feel more like a club for everyone that is a member of the site. Just a suggestion

I'd agree with that, although it would probably be better if there had been more IMOC t-shirts available on the day, or if some of us (i.e. me) had realised that we could/should have pre-ordered them for helping out on the day. Perhaps putting forum names across the back of them, football shirt style would help :)

As for IMOC events, well, there was the Friday night drinking, Saturday evening BBQ & the football (i'd like to think we were robbed, what with the center getting moved ever closer to our goal), and then today, we watched the F1 in the gazeebo on the stand, and had the fun of taking the gazeebos down again!

Stand was a bit light on Sunday - was much, much busier on the Saturday, we moved the mk1s to the mk1 club end of the pitch, just to keep some continuity (that's my excuse anyway). Next year will be better :)

I think that the admins on the stand did a really good job - there just needs to be more of them to help things run smoother, after all, they want to see the show as well! If you want IMOC to have a better stand at the next JAE (wherever that may be), then make it happen!

<added>
I'd just like to add that there were some fantastic Mk2s on the stand, since I don't know much about them, I can only identify them by colour  , but there was a really nice silver one (GT?) which turned up Saturday afternoon, the purple one which was on the front row Sat & Sun, a gold one...ermm, and lots and lots besides. Kudos to the mk2s for (IMHO) being better attended and attracting more interest than the GTOs across the road.

Also, from a Mk1 point of view, we were hit by some notable absences, Tonis twincharger is not yet finished (as she had to explain '000s of times over the weekend :)), Si Cooks SC, since he had to leave again on Saturday - and not forgetting Limeys' MK1 which has compression problems.. Next year, when these things are ready & available, we'll be able to put on a slightly better mk1 showing.

Lets not get into a discussion on the board.. not really the time or place.

lets just say there were two sides to it and you only heard one.

tbh Ben, I'm glad I never helped out, because I don't think that my involvement would have made the stand any better.

I was there to enjoy my weekend, not feel like I was at work. I also think that it was out of order the way that Dales weekend was ruined, by action of IMOC admin. Dale already had prior involvement to Team Overboosts stand and think that it was unacceptable and out of order to keep trying to track him down.

Shame on you guys. :x

Good ideas I reckon. I like the idea of a kitty to which people can contribute and then we have a big imoc beer stash. and space for more people at night.
