I have a friend who had a Noble GTO3R, and still has a R1- except on a huge, open racetrack (like silverstone), he tells me the bike would p1$$ on the car under all conditions. Raced my brother recently (my Supra TT vs his R6), 40-100, i shouldn't have turned up really, i got murdered.

i hate to say it, but i hate bikers, most of them i know keep blabbin on about if you want a real thrill a bike is the only thing, cars are crap etc, o the ultimate adrenalin rush bla bla bla, well ok if you like wearing tight leathers but thats not my thing, seemsa bit gay,(kiddin bikers on this forum) though my neighbour is a biker and loves anything jap and turbo, so if it wasnt for him id be knocking bikers of the road left right and centre

Have to say i rather like bikers. they seem to be a far more united bunch than car enthusiasts in many ways. I like their passion. Mind you i might like the leathers as well. :P

it is like entering a new world.
everyone waves, nods at each other, just because they have a bike.
very united.
with the obvious exception of scooter riders and those riding at rossi speeds with the psycho GP look on their faces

I am not a lover of bikes as such, would not want one myself. I live on the Welsh Boarders where there are some famous runs that bikers use when the sun is out, up into North Wales its nothing to see 25 to 30 bikers at once going for it. However if I slow down and move over a bit to let them get passed me most of them will give you a thumbs up thank you. ( I would rather they were passed me because I don’t want them banging into the side of my newly painted car and lets be honest here boy and girls a bike ridden properly is always going to outrun a car) They do seem a courteous friendly bunch.

:-k

Top Gear (I think) did a sports bike vs a 911 and while the bike was (obviously) all over him on the straights the 911 was cornering at a far superior rate. By the end of the map the 911 just pipped it. The important thing to add, though, is that in terms of cornering the bike was miles behind.

As for lateral G, most high scoring performance cars will get 0.9-1.1 or thereabouts. I'm afraid you can't beat the laws of physics! Not sure what kind of lateral G a bike can pull TBH, but given they are so poor around corners I am guessing it is on average lower.

Bikes only outrun car if the straights are long enough, they are always slower through the corners.

I know for a fact a 320BHP+ MR2 driven properly can hang with 600cc bikes all day long especially as the speeds get into 3 figures!!!

If I had the articles I would post them but I aint so I guess I lose. From what I can see if the car has no downforce the bike can match or out corner it but on the road most bikers aint that brave or stupid to try it

I've seen the top gear vid, its real close and yes the 911 wins

A bike can get a lot closer to car corner speeds than people think, it just takes a good rider. Its a lot easier to drive fast than it is ride fast, especially on the road. It only takes a dodgy road surface/diesel/gravel on the road in a corner and you will soon find yourself in trouble on a bike, hence most bikers won't push the limits too often.

I remember seeing a Lambo Gallardo vs a Ducati 999 on 5th gear a while back where the 999 just beats the lambo round the track, in fact i have just found a video clip of it: http://xfer.gofastvideo.com/gallery/get ... ati_lo.wmv

Obviously a car with downforce will leave a bike standing through the corners.

bikes aloud also ran a test.

crescent suzuki against a noble.
suzuki won.
but it was close.

basically at the higher speeds the car can do the corners quicker due to having a better centre of gravity.

as for on the road, most bikes will beat a car because of traffic, they can get round it, you can't most of the time.

This is veering OT now. We're not talking about what is faster around a track, but what corners faster. The only reason a bike can even keep up with a car on track is its straight-line grunt.

The facts are that cars murder bikes when it comes to corners.

tracks have corners.
plus the comparison allows for variations in the road.
in the same way a mk1 is normally better round corners then a mk2.
but gets beaten on the straight.
life is not a straight line.
life is not a corner.
to compare the two you have to have both.

Think it was Autocar that did a comparison a couple of years back, they compared a radical against a few superbikes around a course (I forget which one) but the bikes ending up just winning it.

To beat by a long way, not "just" or "a car's length".

we could argue for long enough but on road tyres with a good rider and on the track its a lot closer than you make out.

On the road for sure the bike will be slower because it hurts a lot more when the biker falls off.

Besides your fancy cornering aint gonna help you when the biker is in front. First straight and he is off. Plus he still has 10+ grand in his pocket

No. The Top Gear test was hardly two amateurs on a Sunday blast, was it? Look at the physics....yeah the car weighs more but look at the tyre contact patch of the two on the ground.

aidy, if the bike is in front on the straight you aint going to get by on the corner cause he is in the way. Pretty simple I thought
