I think thats a border bonnet or replica - the vents do serve a purpose on border bonnets - there is a kit that goes with the bonnet to angle the radiator back bit and I believe you cut part of the front of the frunk out which allows more air through the rad and out of the bonnet and helps increase down force on the front of the car.

Think your right martin, look what nath is doing at the minute, same thing i think??

Looks the muts nuts  :thumleft:

as i mentioned before, theres no need to cut the FRUNK as the holes in the border bonet sit immediatly over the plastic cowling above the radiator. the border bonet maintains your frunk as useable and sealed, no need for cutting. but for even more improved "front end lift" resistance you could form your own like in the thread you suggested.

when ive fitted the scoop i will look into fitting one of these under bonnet scoops, looks like a good idea to me hopefully scoop will turn out good and this might help the light front end handling :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
she's all comming together nicely now after a fair bit of cash spent, not bad for just an n/a now for some body kit i think.

i thought i was just gonna do this as a cosmetic mod. but after looking at the other thread i might also have to do a scoop from the front to aid this. any reduction in front end lift has to be a good thing. altho im sure i dont have the same budget as century motorsport.

nathan if you read this. how much did that work cost? if thats not to rude to ask.

my scoop arived today it was dispatched yesterday and arived today quite impressed with company very good indeed, i ended up getting scoop on best offer for £30 which was nice,

well i had a bit of an afternoon spare so i made a template for the scoop to fit out of hardboard, and then cut out the holes on the bonnet well should i say butchered the bonnet,
most of the suports for the middle come off when cutting out the holes, going to weld in some supports to make the bonnet more sturdy, mind you when scoop is bonded on and fibreglassed it should be more sturdy anyway,
but not taking any chances as i dont want it to crack when i have painted it well here are some pics of it now.

not best of picture when scoop fitted but you get the idea of it. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

as you can see top edge of scoop has curved edge this lines up with bonnet, that in turn positions scoops where thay should be,
looking at pics of other bonnets it looks bang on, only real grumble is scoops dont look as deep as a carbon one but for a total cost so far of £70 im not fussed time ive painted it will only stand me in £120 so quite chuffed,
back to work for 4 days now so will have to wait till ive done my 48 hours untill i can resume project, i was very suprised how thick the metal was on the bonnet these things are made very well,
took me 3 hours to cut them out with jigsaws, grinders the lot i will post more pics when i get some more work done, got to get some gas for my mig yet though so i can make it stronger all good fun though. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

oh the wood is very thin hardboard i made template so i could ensure it went in the right place, you cant make mistakes when cutting bonnet unless you have a few spares of course which i dont. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

thanks guys i found a large full bottle of gas today so will be up for some welding if my regulator turns up tuesday to make it stronger, and then hopefully screw scoop to bonnet and have a trial fit on car to make sure all lines up then its blend it all in to the bonnet then some serious saving for my painting bits going to need.

1 x spraygun to primer
1x spraygun to lay colour coat
and maybe a gun for clear coat
1 x air regulator/filter
2k primer
2k gloss black
and all the other bits tack rags, paint filters, gun cleaner, panel wipes, the list is endless but i so want to get into this painting game i will save a fortune. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

if you look at the where ive cut out the bonnet the middle has no support the cross peice comes off when you cut the 2 sections out,
the bonnets becomes quite wobbly im going to weld a bit down the middle and tack the bonnet back to the supports as its just stuck by blobs of white stuff,
im doing this as a precaution as i really dont want it to crack my idea is do it right first time, thing is when scoop is bonded to bonnet and glassfibred underneath it might be ok to honest with you standard bonnet has quit a lot of flex anyway to be honest. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Could the bonnet skin itself be cut off ,and leave the supports in ?

i done a chop shop job on the support in the middle i cut up the old metal and re-used it bonnet does not flex at all now, thats what worried me when i cut the middle section out it flexed quite a bit, scoop is all bonded on now and i started to glassfibre underneath weather is supposed to be poxy for next couple of days so i just got lucky. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Looks good mate :thumleft:

Just curious but why did the bonnet need the two holes cutting out?
the scoop looks to fit on top of the original near the windscreen ,and the front

Also could the bonnet be slit, and then folded down to match the curve on the scoop instead?

Im not knocking what you've done ,just trying to understand :-k

at the back of scoop (curved end) the scoop starts to slope down towards front of bonnet, if i didnt do this the scoop would sit up and sides would have a big gap this way the whole lot sits flush,
hard to explain if you looked at scoop sideways you would understand looking at it now though i could have started cut outs a bit further down not much but might have helped a bit more, but putting in that centre support has done the job spot on so it shouldnt crack fingers crossed going to spray in 2 pack paint which im told has a bit of flex in it aswell , because the last thing i want is it to crack weathers supposed to be crap so might be on hold for a while. :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

Has anyone got the rad relocation brackets that would be used with this type of Border bonnet? I am just about to fit a new rad and want to relocate it so the air flow is out of the bonnet and not under the car.

Thanks
