First off, I really like the idea of a centre roof mounted scoop, and it's an idea of been toying with on and off for a couple of years.

But... This system will interfere with the car's airflow - and in turn engine bay cooling - in a negative way. As some people have already pointed out the airflow on the MR2 is designed in such a way that it pulls air from under the car and out of the vents at the top. A factor that hasn't been mentioned yet is that with a turbo engine bay cover the airflow is also directed towards the front of the car.

This means you have a powerful cold air feed from the top of the car into your intercooler and a less powerful hot air feed from the engine bay to the bottom of your intercooler. At speed I think you run the risk of stalling the airflow through the engine bay entirely.

I've been thinking about taking a mould of it and marketing it myself if anyone would be interested.

The pipework simply goes through the little side panels next to the engine lid, it's just a matter of cutting two holes (one each side) and running the pipes through. The chap I bought the car from made this himself, and I love it. It was one of the first things that caught my eye to be honest. The intercooler hes used is about twice the size of the original one, and now has the benefit of having nice cold air blasted onto it directly from the roofscoop.

Here's an exisiting photo with the scoop fitted ...

It does look good, i saw that car at last years hickstead show. He had only just done it and hadn't even connected up the intercooler at that stage. I can say for anyone interested, the quality of it was amazing, it really did look like a genuine scoop, not something someone had just made up.

It was dyno'd directly before and directly after the installation and showed an increase of around 25bhp.

It then went off to Thor Racing for a ECU upgrade and remap.

The car is now running a Link XLEM and has been dyno'd at 320bhp at the flywheel.

YAY!! Anothe rev1 in the 300's, proving it can be done. What boost pressure was that at my friend?

Think it looks class but would like a little further forward toward the t-bar. And also maybe a bit smaller to take a smaller or stock IC.

Surely the air doesn't need to be sent into the engine bay ? Could just be used to cool the IC and excess air vented away/to the sides/back of the engine bay ? and as soneone else said, one of the pipes could be used for a direct forced induction?

It's running at 1.1bar.

It can be pushed to 1.2bar but starts losing efficiency when high in the rev range.

Either way, it feels bloody quick!

Looks good, I've seen that car before - probably the previous owner - although when I saw it, there was no roof mount on it.

I would imagine that there is quite a bit of heatsoak on trackdays and the like, as the heat is meant to come out of the top of the bay whereas this is sitting directly over it.

It looks nicely done though, but I'd prefer to go a boot mount instead of that.

Whats the view out of the rear window like?

i'm not convinced. send me money. then i'll tell you it looks like Christina Aqua Spellerer in the nuddy on a plastic bed smothered inch deep with vaseline.

PS. that green thing is a friggin abomination and should be lowered into hot acid immediately. Fitting that is is pictured on what appears to be a very nasty estate. only the people that live there could have little enough taste to tolerate it.

You could get the engine lid that some one hear has got which directs the air away from that bottom of that. I can't remember what brand it was. Toms? Border?

Looks class. I'm interested in what it does to the turbo lag though.

I cant believe mark sold his car. That car has some very nice bits to it, all done by him self. Very talented with fibreglass and filler. His install was as impressive as the roof scoop... possibly more so.

Shame he never did get to hooking that I/C up.

Paint work is great aswell.

Martyn, any ideas what he's running now that he's sold this?
