If I am there I can weld it. If not someone is welcome to borrow my welder.

AFAIK Tom's the only one of us who can weld. :(

Last time the club behind us tried to do a set of sills on a Sierra and only did one (Just). So welding may not be a good idea unless it's a simple straight forward job.

I think we've got more than enough to keep us occupied without the welding.

wow
it really seems to be looking like a good show now

i personally think that welding should be left to another time, as there is only so many people that can cram around one car at once (health and safety issues too)

best to stick to the list steve has posted, plus the front end stuff on phils car. IMO

I agree on the welding as its only a little job, Toms offered to do that another time, the sill skins I have im happy to give them away to anyone who needs them if they dont end up being used at the show, could see that fitting sills skins to someones car turning into a nightmare on the day if it didnt go to plan.

Im happy to bring along all the stuff we have for the project car, hopefully the springs (need to speak to MartG) definitely the brakes, and I will bring the box of goodies for the engine service, so if somebody knowledgable can work out what is practically achievable on the day that would be great.

Have to admit to being a novice, as far as the brakes and springs go, but well up for having a go and helping out, and Im more than capable of carrying out the engine service, and will be bringing the bearding box and overhauls :D

Cars livery is in production this week, and has the mk1 club logo nice and large on the rear quarters as part of the design! lol.. also covers up the fading paintwork) will post up some visuals once im happy with the design.

Ive also collected together all of our magazine mk1 articles to date written by both Garrick and Rob Hawkins, and will get them printed large on A3 this week and put them safe. And maybe do a few more displays of bits and pieces we have done, maybe we could get a few more updated photos of the other mk1 restoration that is being carried out that was in the last mag, as its very impressive.

Its a shame there is not more time to prepare for this, as with the facilities I have to hand at work, we could make it a show stopper, and it wouldnt cost much, our place does massive exhibition stands for the likes of Fuchs, Silkolene and Yamaha, quite impressive stuff.

Look forward to chatting with Kirsty later this week to see what we can help with

Right, I can now make it for anything that's happening the night before; if we have accomodation of some sort available that'd be great (even just a camp-site).

Steve, will the magazine photographer be coming down for the show? It's just that there's a great opportunity for photos, and also the possibility to use those photos for a KB article or two for IMOC...? However, this will require someone pretty much just to take photos of the event. I could possibly do it but I'd much rather get my hands dirty. Plus I've just managed to accidentally destroy my Speedlite (camera external flash) and cannot afford a replacement right now... (bu88er).

Speaking of photos, if you want any large res photos of Mk1s in action on track or at shows, PM me and I'll send you a link to a couple of smaller versions I've got - I can then email you the larger res of the ones you like.

I can weld a bit - I've started working on my Pug recently and will have gotten some sills practice by then most probably (time permitting). But I do not think it's a good idea to weld at the show - I certainly wouldn't be quick enough to do a job I'd be happy with in the time allowed, and I really do think that what with the other jobs to be done on the car, we'd be taking a bit too much of a risk to weld as well... just IMO. Not the safest environment for welding IYSWIM.

Ok timing/work as I see it:

Steves car:

Front brakes - 2 people and will take up 3-4hrs (I'm being generous here)
Service items - 1/2 people (time depends on service requirements)
Springs - 2 People budget the whole day, these will need to be removed as soon as the front brakes are off. I have spring compressors but removing the top bolt can be a PITA, just need to remember to loosen it before jacking the car up. Got any new shocks to go in as well Steve?

There can be some swapping of people between jobs depending on space/time.

Phils car:

This is going to be a full day with a dedicated team IMO, it'd be nice to know who has experience with this. I don't.

Will bring my laptop with BGB and greasy Haynes as per last time. :D

May I make a suggestion that we appoint peopel to deal with each individual aspect and we'll pick / allocate / volunteer according to the project in question.

Also major consideration here people: tools.

Having lost tools during these sorts of events it may be an idea for only certain people's tools to be used to minimise the effects of accidental loss, also room permitting.

I agree with Chris in terms of the people allocation, though think that maybe the brakes people could also do the service of the vehicle as well - they can do that whilst the suspension is being sorted.

I have some experience of the front brakes, have some experience of MK2 suspension - not dissimilar, some experience of servicing - also have some of the specialist stuff - oil drainer and filter removal tool etc.

Also have some experience with the front end due to having worked on mine in replacing bits and pieces following deer damage.

I am happy to take charge of the brake / service project if people want.

No need mate, we've got enough people to have dedicated peeps on each task. I'm a bit worried about having 5-6 people round each car but everyone's got to have some time off for lunch/wandering/shopping. Having an area 'supervisor' is a good idea, I'll probably just dive in.

Agree re. the tools but there's a lot of cross over in sizes, so we've got to make sure there are enough for all. So a set per group would be best IMO. Just got to keep it tidy, last time I think everyone went back with their stuff.

Remember we have from 8:30/9am until 4pm to do all this and I'd rather be finished early than struggling and rushing like the Sierra boys last time. May have to think twice about the springs. :-k

well if one person provides for servicing, one for brakes etc then it should be okay.

i can chuck in a black and decker workmate if it makes the job easier for people to have something to lean on?

Phil = Kiaowas? i.e front end bumper bar rebuild? If so I've got the experience ( I keep it in a jiffy bag :D ) could do that one no probs in the time allowed.

If not I'm a dab hand at brakes and routine service items, and I'd kill to have a go at springs / shocks as I want to do that to my trackday beastie at some point this year. So happy to work on Steve's if needed.

Either one up to you chaps.

Could somebody post the arrangements for meeting up / getting in on the day etc? Ta.

Think Kirsty is sorting that one out - may be having an MSN chat with everyone at some point.

I got an ass whooping by Kirsty (not an unpleasant experience \:D/ ) on the 'phone about how the thread has spiralled.

From what I can gather, there will be the MSN chat with everyone and then details will be posted up.
