Anyway, ugly as it may be, the keypad will be an advantage to any one with a PS3 who uses the web browser.

If it is as you say independent from the control pad then in theory you dont need to attach it to use it and thus you don't have the problem of thumbs not reaching :thumleft:

Keypad finally arrived, definitely standalone (doesn't connect to the joypad USB port) - I'll test it out tonight.

Works very well! Typing this using it on my PS3 right now :) Keypad is very similar to my G1 keypad so I feel right at home with it.
Mouse is a nice touch if you want to use it standalone, but when attached to a controller it`s probably easier to just use the sticks. Really can`t notice the weight when attached, so no balance issues. When you want to type, you naturally tip the controller toward yourself so it`s actually quite well placed. A worthy investment, makes in game messaging very convenient, no need to reach over for full size keyboard or mess with the standard text entry system.

Does anyone else who has another type of usb/bluetooth keyboard in their PS3 permenantly have the problem that it defaults as controller 1 when you switch on and have to change your controller to 1 in the XMB to play most games?

LBP is the only game this doesn't affect, Bloody annoying

Rant over!!! :)

Do you switch the console on via the joypad? If not, try that. Should default to #1 if used to turn the system on.
