New track toy plus pics from Geo Setup

Post by Ryan.g »

As some of you may know, I have now sold the Formula 27 track car I had and brought a Rev3 Turbo MR2 to track. Over the last month I have been ripping the thing to bits to save as much weight as possible and now pretty much everything that I don’t need is gone. :D

The car has been equipped with a Solaris S6 Ecu and since starting to map the car I have noticed that it has not handled as well as my every day Mr2. Checked over all the suspension parts and serviced everything that needed doing but was still not 100%.

As I decided everything was tip top on the chassis side of things I decided it was best to get the Geo fully setup. I wanted to find someone who has worked with the MR2 Chassis lots before like CW has on the Supra’s.
After a quick browse of the owners clubs, the company Wheels In Motion became apparent lots. Decided to give them a ring for a chat and see what they had to offer. The chat went well and today I went over to get the geo setup to how I would like it.

Now this is the first time I have ever had the geo setup on any car I own but I must truly say I’m amazed at the difference. The MR2 has a real tendency to under steer lots and as I have removed lots of weight from the front I was wondered it was going to be even worse but after the setup that Tony set it seems to have solved the issue. Now I really need to get back on the track to test and confirm but the difference on the road is well worth the £85+vat I paid to have it set.

Below are some pics from WIM and of my new toy. (yes I know its not the prettiest front end but weighs a lot less than the standard setup)

Things left to do now are

- Fit new clutch
- Finish the map off at SRR
- Wire in the ABS G sensor to read lateral G and configure the Solaris TC based on each wheel.
- Setup the knock control
- Fit and configure the Race2 dash
- Test at Track 

Hey Ryan, didn't know the crazy car was gone. I like the PP front, well the lights more than the actual bumper.

Tonys good, he's been taking care of my Eunos since I got it, I can hold on in the bends as well as an Elise now, the Eunos has major adjustment so unless aligned by someone with the know how drives like a pile of poo, once it has been its amazing though.

Just got to finish refurbing my 16's and take my MR2 to him, I got some EZ camber bolts and Tein tension rods so he's got more adjustment to play with :thumleft:

p.s. MOT issues with Emmissions with the Eunos again,.. 3rd time lucky tomorrow morning :( WB say's stoich. I think the gasket after the cat was leaking as I was failing too high lambda and it only came down if I made it silly rich at which point it swapped to CO fail :(

Its totally stripped out now, p.s. Car Builder solutions do an electric demister if you want to loose the weightly heating system and stay road legal

Hey Steve

Yh the F27 was awesome on the track and in a straight line but was just sick of not being able to make track days due to rain as it didn't even have a windscreen :(

Emissions issues sound like the gasket has gone chap. You need to find a better station that just misses bits like that

No need to worry about the demistor in the mr2, with the windscreen slighty open i have not had a problem yet and everything has pretty much gone in mine. Pop over at some point and were have a chinwag and talk track toys :thumleft:

Will do :thumleft:

In my research demister definately SVA requirement and 90% sure MOT requirement :( Thats only reason I fitted an electric one. You'll have to point me to a friendly station, the one I use is friendly up to the point of emmissions where they let me play but won't pass without it really passing. New one to try tomorrow as my regular ones closed for 2 weeks and I have Colern to go to on the 30th so need it done.

Bit of an update..

Solaris is now fully mapped

Have fitted a Race technologies Dash2 and setup through the CAN stream of the Solaris, see vids here of it

Today i had some time to finish the interior. Pic below

Booked in to give the car a shake down at Abingdon on the 26th with a few others and fully setup the traction control on the Solaris.

Cool, but why 18 minutes difference between camber left to right on the rear after adjustments? :?

The cross camber is a result of the toe correction and the fact this car has limited adjustments... 18' is well within the 30' allowed.
