Hey Red
It all depends what you want to achieve, I've found that a set of good quality components and a 10 inch sub behind the passenger seat works best for me but i'm not sure if thats what you want? I've never really got on with 6x9's I feel they don't give enough depth to the music

Red, I spent a while trying to research components a few months ago. In the end I went for some JL Audio Components and sourced them from the states. UK price was £289.99 - US price £120!!!! Paid another £50 for import tax and shipping and they are awesome. That combined with an Alpine 8" sub and amp (£250 combined) I have what I consider to be a belting system. Loads of treble, lovely base note and all nice and tidy! \:D/

Hi mate

I have a good quality set of components in the doors, tweeters, and a sub behind each seat.

This works pretty well for me although it might be a little OTT on the bass (1 behind the passenger seat would be fine!) as I can turn the bass right down when I want by setting the fade all the way to the front. It also gives it a lot more clarity and bass than 6x9's could.

I have my amp stuck in the bonnet, and the whole install only took a couple of hours.

I have a high quality set of mac audio components rated at a genuine 100wats rms, with nice gold cross overs built into the doors. 12" kenwood sub in custom box fitting exactly above cubby box behind passenger seat.

Pheonix Gold Tantrum series 400.4 4 channel amp running the 2 front components, and the other 2 channels bridged to run the sub under "tight" control as its sealed anyway, may run in reverse phase if too much...This amp used to run 4 JLL 12" subs at once on demo in shop before, (not my actual one tho) lol

Alpine 4v out Head unit, 60watts 3 outs, (not running off this for power) just transport only.

NO NEED FOR THEM RUBBISH "REAR FILL" STOCK SPEAKERS.

TBH ditch the Sony HU........ they are crap. However if you want to keep t do. Just whatever you do DO NOT BUY 6x9's!!!

Best speaker would be focal components up front - and a single 10" sub or 12". remove the rear speaker - you dont need these.

Basically youre ears are designed to pickup sound front infront of you. So a good front set up is required. Focal compnents do the job pretty well.

Because of the above you can remove the crappy rear speakers because you can't hear them correctly.

Bass is non directional so you can pretty much mount the sub anywhere. behind the seats is the normal option.

Right as for the 6x9's.... The are pap. they are designed for the boy racers they sound crap and produce more crap. If you dont believe me please head over to www.talkaudio.co.uk and ask the guys there. Also look at some proper show winning cars. You wont find a single 6x9 for a reason.

It all depends on how much u want to spend and how much noise u want. I found 6x9's were fine as they worked really well with the acoustics of the car, and are relatively well hidden from sight.

I fitted them behing the seats and also upgraded the door speakers. Sounds brilliant and I never really go past the ten mark on my volume. Do make sure ur headunit has at least 4x45watts amp inside, unless ur going to buy an additional amp on top.

Hey Craig,

In my old NA i bought some focal 165's for around £120, they are component speakers so you get seperate tweeters and mid cones. These sounded great, although were using the existing wires from the car, and would have sounded even better if i had powered them off my alpine head unit.
I disconnected all the other speakers as they were no longer needed, basically because they ruined the quality of the focals.

Now my NA's gone, and am awaiting my rev 3 tubby, in red :)

~The 4x45 amp is more likey to be about 4x25 actual output. the only real way is to have a amp & new wiring to the speakers.

Seriously get on talkaudio and have a look about.

Yeah head unit power is not actually what it says on the label, mine says 60 watts which is sufficient but actually i Recon its only like 15/20 watts rms if that.

I only work in reall figures and hate people that say they have a 2000 watt amp etc b0ll0x.! they add all the watts up together. Duh! #-o

Mind waiting a bit?

I"ll have a few really cool sub boxes for a pair of 8" JL audio subs. Take the lid off your cubby boxes behind the seat and they slip in nice and flush 8)

I'll get my ar$e in gear and sort them

I've a set of 17cm Diamond Audio M6 components in the front and a 10" Diamond M6 sub behind the passenger seat all powered by a Genesis Profile 5 amp. Sounds sweet :D
