[Mk2] [Turbo] What do people think/know about this clutch

Post by 2barGee »

My clutch slips when i hit full boost espcially when i floor it from low down in the revs......and when it hits full boost it slips like mad. But if i go through for example 2nd into 3rd booting it, its fine?? It must be on its last legs but slips at different times/points ](*,)

Anyway the link above looks like what need, does anybody have this on there car if so whats it like to use??

Thanks dan

I think quite a few have them on here. The rps ones are recommended well. Ive just got the 525lb one which is awaiting install, but be warned, nobody has them at the moment. Rogue were even thinking of taking them off there stock list and finding a new clutch supplier as the wait for stock has been months. Still looks like theyve got non. Your best bet is going to the only UK rps supplier directly- SRBPOWER. It will cost a bit more, but you might actually have a chance of getting hold of one.

Hi Dan,

The clutch should be strong as s**t unless on way out?

Couple of questions is your peddle noisy?? If so clutch slave cylinder can be a culprit? If so I would change sooner rather than later?

How old is clutch? What power you running? Less than 350bhp??

The peddle sometime makes noise but it comes from the back of the car i think. The clutch is pretty new i think but it was one that the owner new would give up at some point.

Since i put my charge cooler on i guess the extra torque has killed the clutch. Could the clutch slave cylinder really be the problem? The more boost i run the worse the slipping #-o

My friends GT4 has this problem , he has only a STD clutch, but its recently been changed and he is only running a std car with EBC. it only slips when turned upto 1.1bar +

the oem clutch should be plenty good enough for 1.1 bar shouldn't it?

anyways, be interested to know the outcome of your problem, especially if it is a clutch cylinder. may be the solution to my friends gt4.

I reckon it is the release baring. Can you 'feel the squeek' through your foot?

If your slave cylinder is on way out it wont disengage the clutch correctly. Could also be a factor in slipping clutch, but to be honest not 100% sure on that so I would contact your nearest specialist for there opinions.

Clutch

Post by tomwoodis »

Hi All,

Thought I'd help out with what I know about the clutch.

The clutch was nearly when I sold the car on. In fact the clutch had only just been changed when I gave the car to Dan and at that point although second hand the clutch had done 700 miles in another mr2.

The clutch is an RPS Streetmax clutch rated @ 324lb/ft

The release bearing was changed when the clutch replaced and should be ok.

The Gearbox was replaced by 3S after the old one was ill-fitted by another supplier. 3S did say that they needed to re-sit the flywheel and the clutch as they weren't fitted correctly, along with the gearbox.

Gearbox was replaced, flywheel re-fitted and clutch re-fitted by 3S correctly so I can only guess why its slipping.

Could it be the car is running in excess of 320lb/ft of torque at 1.2 bar?

Hope car is treating you well,

Tom
