Tyre sizes and options

Hi, my '89 MK1 needs a couple of front tyres.

It came to me fitted with 195/45 15 on TSW alloys IIRC it would have had originaly had 185/60 14.
As this equates to 195/50 15 do I replace all four in 50 profile or stick with the marginally smaller 45's ?

There are pro's and cons for both profiles and the 50's 12 quid cheaper each.

Not sure how much the handling would be afftected, prob not much on a light car.
Also, any recommended brands, I can get Yokies aor Avons at a good price.

Comments and suggestions please.

For what they cost (£30-£40 each) replace all 4 with 50 profile.Do a search for the 'best' as this as already been discussed on here at great length!!!

im running 45 profiles imo i think they are better... and if you got a choice out of those 2 then i would have yoko's

ive got goodyear eagle f1's all round. They cost £36 each including vat and delivery, then cost £6 each corner to fit at your local garage/tyre fitters.

I wouldnt have anything else! Well maybe apart from the Neovo LTS's that cost £94 each which lotus use

I'd go for 50 profiles.

Would always take yokos over avons, depends which ones though.

50 profile will give a closer match to the original rolling radius i.e. the speedo will be a little more accurate. The slightly higher gearing will also improve fuel consumption, though only by a very small amount.

I do have a set of 45 profile for trackdays - the smaller radius gives lower gearing, hence slightly better acceleration

The best tyres (i've tried a few) are yoko advan neova LTS basically elise fronts. Best thing since sliced bread basically. Wonderful progression last well too.

I've just fitted some Yokohamo Parada spec 2's. I got all 4 for £140 fitted.

I've just come back from a 400 mile round trip through the great yorkshire dales and was very impressed with the grip they gave. By far the best tyre i have used to date.
