PS3...MGS4...What to do....?

Post by KrisMoyse »

For 3 long years I have waited for the next fix of MGS and now, upon release of MGS4...it's all over.

This is the MGS to end all MGS's (please if anyone knows anything about the plot DON'T tell me). This is Snake's last mission, the game that ties up all the lose ends and concludes in my OWN PERSONAL opinion (not everyones I know) the greatest saga of games ever made.

I have waited for MGS4 for over 3 years, planning and saving and waiting. But now upon release, due to car problems and the fact that if I want to play it I have to purchase a PS3...money is a large obstical.

And so I need the help of my fellow open minded IMOCers.

How can I play MGS4 a the lowest possible cost?

I have layed out the following possibilities but I need your help to rationalise things and also to add suggestions of how this might be possible.

I don't require a PS3 for anything else other than MGS4. I don't need to keep it after I complete the game, I don't need it for blueray movies, other games or anything...just MGS4. Oh and nowhere rents PS3's so thats not an option.

The list of options I have is this:

  • 1. Buy a PS3 and MGS4 for approximately £340 with my savings, then sell both on eBay once I've finished the game and try and get my money back (bear in mind PayPal costs etc).

    2. Get a low APR credit card, put both the console and the game on that then pay it off in tiny amounts each money, ie living cheap for months on end and adding tons of interest onto the £340...(this one is not really an option)

    3. As with option 1, buy a PS3 and MGS4 for approximately £340 but this time with a credit card, then sell both on eBay once I've finished the game and try and get my money back (once again bear in mind PayPal costs etc).

    4. Wait, sit in silence and generally go mad at not being able to play this game until the PS3 goes down in price...ie, in 2 years time!!!

    5. Rent one of a fellow IMOCer, buy MGS4, then put MGS4 on eBay ad pay IMOCer for the privilage of borrowing their PS3

That's all I've got so far, what do you all think? I HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME!!!!! lol ](*,)

2nd hand PS3 for around £220 + game then sell it on. It's already lost a certain amount as it's used.

Although, if you have an HD TV - see my thread in general. Bluray/HD movies is where it's at. Absolutely brilliant, once you see them, you'll want more and more.

Can you recomment anywhere to get one for that? (eBay I guess...)

You can get pretty good HD TV's these days for less than £500 if you go for 32" or smaller. 2nd hand could be fairly cheap.

But as for 2nd hand PS3's, yeah take a look on ebay, go for the 40gb version as it'll be cheapest. They seem to be between £220 & £270
For some reason they dont lose a great deal off that new price of £300 so if you buy a 2nd hand one you should be able to get nearly or all your money back as that initial loss has alread been taken by the 1st owner.

You might even be able to sell it to some one on here if you decide not to keep it :thumleft:

Are you a game fan or just a MGS fan?

I dont really use mine for games but I still want to keep it as there will be times when I want games.

I think once you have one you'll find it hard to sell it again lol.

Thats what I'm worried about. Thing is though I'll never get time to play games, my life's so damn busy with work etc. With MGS though I'd make the time, then once I'm finished I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want it again. I'll just wait 2 years or so for PS3 prices to come down so in time, I would get one, just wouldn't keep this one...couldn't afford to! lol

I suppose if money really is tight then that'll help force your hand.

It's a shame there's no real cheap options for the PS3. Like one with no bluray player and large hard drive. They'd be fairly cheap then.

Your not going to need either just to play a game on an SD TV then sell it on.

Exactly, such a sh1tter. Hence looking for the cheap option, I only need the console foe a week, maybe 2 then I'm done. WHY CAN'T BLOCKBUSTER RENT THEM!!! AHH

By the way I know why, it just annoys me

Do you have any good mates with a PS3 that'll lend it to you?

Perhaps while they go on holiday?

I have one that I'm gonna try, not sure how to word it though.

I'm looking for options in case he says no, which I'm sure he will

How about this then.

Suggest if you buy the game, can you borrow the console to play it on then he can keep the game as a payment.

That way you only lose £35 - £40

Not a bad idea.

Had a new one though. Sell everything I don't need on eBay, trade in my PS" plus all the game, memory cards etc (except the MGS's) and see what I get for it.

Then club all the money etc together plus the trade in amount, then make up the difference (which'll hopefully be only about £100)

Only the 60 & 80 gb PS3's are backwards compatible for PS1 and PS2 games.

A PS1 and games etc isnt going to be worth all that much IMO either.

I've seen them for sale for pounds.

I meant PS2 lol.

Just checked anyway, gamestation offer this:

Non-Slim PS2 + 1 Controller = £18
Memory Card = £1.00
Add. Controllers = £1.00
Games = 0.50p to £2.50 (pending crapness)

All in all I'd get about £26...not worth it

Anything not next gen is pretty much worthless now unfortunately.

And as I said, your MGS games wont work on the PS3 unless you spend even more on the bigger HD version.

SORTED!

My very generous mate is gonna letme borrow his PS3 for a week or so.

Then once I've completed it, he gets the game and my save file. Only costs me £40 and some electric. No HD TV sadly though but in a few years I'll get the PS3 myself (once prices have dropped) and MGS4 and an HDTV and play it all over again.

Thanks for all your help guys, I can finally play the game I wanted for about 6 years (wanted it since the end of MGS2) an it's only gonna cost me £40! yey! \:D/

Glad my idea worked out and hope you enjoy it :thumleft:

H3RB - how many hours of those 19.5 were cut scenes in the end?

Can I play this with no experience of the previous games?
