WHY NO FEEDBACK about Knowledge Base Article

Post by Lewis Jay »

Sent a Knowledge Base Article in last week and have heard nothing. ](*,)

Quite annoyed to be honest  as it appears the moderators are always there to jump on a thread THEY feel is getting fruity :eye: yet when someone posts a knowledge base article for the good and benefit of fellow club members and they dont even get a "sorry mate you article is xxxx".

I can see why there are people leaving this Forum/Club in persuit of others. [-X

I do apologise, but the trouble is that we have been short on moderators lately due to a number of people who have not been around.

The sad fact is that maybe you would be better off directing your anger at those who take up the moderators and committee's time with moderation and trader issues and members who can't seem to follow very simple rules.

I'm actually not clear on what has happenned.

Can you explain please?

/Sorry i don't do techno geek stuff, but i will bring it to the attention of the mods.

Have had a look and can't see it waiting to be approved, in fact i can't see anything submitted by you.

This is exactly what I mean.....

You say that th site is "down" on moderators for whatever reason but then say I should aim my annoyance at the clowns who sell stuff on here, surley I would then be causing the moderators (who arent here to have the decency to tell me my article is useless) more problems.

You have also made an apology and then said "I'm actually not clear on what has happenned".

"Can you explain please?"

I really dont know why I bother. :pale:

At some point i come to the conclusion that there really is no pleasing some people.

I've gone and managed to sort your knowledge base article so you've got what you asked for. I did this as soon as i saw your post. We do not get notified of pending articles unfortunately. Yet you still are not happy.

FWIW mods can't approve AFAIK. Has to be committee. All of us work full time, there has only been a few of us around over the last week, we all have other commitments and we all have to earn a living etc... so i'm really sorry you feel that it has taken so long.

Sorry, don't know what you are on about with your article being useless? I had a quick skim, seemed okay so i approved it.

O.k thanks for sorting it out so quickly, wasnt aimed directly at you, just seems that the only way to get an answer at the moment is ranting about it (check out the general & mechanical forums you`ll see what I mean).

Perhaps the system need a tweek then, co`s you just said that you dont get notified of pending articles and mods cant approve them.

Thanks again for sorting it quickly, Lewis.

That's correct. We don't see the KB items pending list and cannot approve them.

Not a problem. Thanks for taking the time do an article and post it.

We will be running a moderator election shortly to address the shortfall.

The system needs a lot of tweaks, but it requires an enormous amount of time and only a couple of people have the expertise to sort it. The forum is really very complex with multiple add-ons, i'm not techno geek though so i'm afraid i can't explain it any further than that.

We also are experiencing paypal renewal issues that are a result of paypal from what i can make out, unfortunately a lot of time has had to be diverted to sorting that out. We have also been up to our ears in legal stuff which is incredibly necessary but incredibly boring and time intensive. We will get there, but being a bit short on mods at the moment has probably exaggerated this somewhat.

Unfortunately to an extent we have to prioritise, i'm sorry though that you have been affected as a result. Anyways we got there in teh end! :+:

Lewis Jay - Can I enquire who you PMd to alert that you had submitted the article?

If you didn't PM anyone then it's unlikely you'll get a response for a while, which is why Max put together the very helpful 'How to..' guide here:

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner (John referred to my KB article in the previous post)...

Yes, due to the way that the Knowledge base works on the Admin side, it's necessary to PM either a mod (so they can flag it up for committee members) or a committee member directly so that they know there is a new article.

For technical reasons, the committee members are currently the only people who can authorise new articles and it seems it'd take a great deal of work to change this (which would be pointless given the admins of the forum are preparing to move it to the new version of the forum software). Unfortunately (again, for technical reasons) no-one gets any notification that there has been a new KB article submitted and so it means someone has to occasionally go and check through all the sections in there to see if there are any new articles awaiting approval. As you can imagine, this takes time - and as has been pointed out earlier, with mods & committee members time stretched already, I'm not surprised it didn't happen.

You're right, the system needs a tweak (and this has been noted by the admin guys). Unfortunately, these tweaks take time... (this is from someone that's had to do this kinda stuff on another forum) Hopefully things'll improve soon enough - we just have to all remember to be patient with one another! :thumleft:
