My first DECENT car..an AW11

Post by Project_AW11 »

Hey
I’ve been on this forum for awhile but never made a proper profile thing so here goes…
My names Joe, I’m 18 and I bought my first MR2 a month or so ago. As you can imagine I’m paying an arm and a leg for insurance, and I’m still a student  , but it is worth every penny 8)

My previous car was a Renault Clio 1.2 1997, can i just say apart from the AW11 being like a rocket in compared  It is so muchh smoother to drive, easier, the build quality feels amazing and it looks alot better to be seen in than the clio

It’s a 1988 MK1 T-bar with 88k on the clock, rear arches have been done recently…subsequently they are slightly brighter than the rest on the car… I paid £700 and had to replace most of the exhaust system (middle box section), buy two new rear tires and change a rear wheel bearing to get it on the road. When the MOT came I had to strip and clean the front brakes the front brakes, replace the pads, get a reasonable amount of welding done. Everything is now sweet, I should do a service on it soon though and I think the clutch may need replacing in a few months. Overall I think I got a reasonable deal. Oh yeah and the T-bar doesn’t leak!

Will get round to sorting the engine bay soon..

Its staying pretty much standard…mainly because my insurance company hates me, no-one will touch me if I even much as change the exhaust…but I can cope with it standard for a year or so.

I’m definitely coming to Japfest and ive got a stand pass so ill be on there (if my car is worthy). Look forward to meeting all you guys and your MR2’s!
