[Mk2] [Generic] Why doesn't my aircon idle up?

Post by MR2_RICH »

Hi guys, I'm attempting to get my aircon / climate control working again.

I've got a new rad for the front as it's full of holes, I've not fitted this yet.

The belt and the condensor seem ok, however the ac doesn't idle up. Anyone else experienced this? Thought it may be the idle up vsv but this seems ok too. :-k

Hopefully when I get this sorted, get the rad in I'll be ready for some new gas. Well either that or find another problem.

Thanks

if the aircon has no gas in it none of the system will work .

+1, the lights will come on in the cabin but the compressor will not engage if the system pressure is too low

Cheers guys.

Right I will take out the old rad and put a new one in. Top it up and see how it goes.

Thought I may have a problem with the VSV or the amplifier.

Hope there are no other leaks.

Any advice on stripping it down. I assume I do not have to drain the system as there is no pressure. Will anything else be likely to be worn out due to having no gas?

Is there any DIY kits to enable me to find leaks before I pay to have it refilled?

Thanks

sadly every seal could have dried out and there are plenty of seals. I cried when my new air con rad sealed perfectly but the system still drainded in a week. Threw the whole darned lot out lol

Also if the compressor doesn't engage for any reason (eg clutch plate missing) the revs won't go up - so it may not be due to lack of gas. I also thought the indicator in the panel flashed if it detected low pressure :-k

Having said that if the system hasn't worked for a while then as Allan said, the seals will probably have dried out. The gas carries lubricating oil to help keep everything working.

Bummer!

Thanks guys.

I will change the rad anyway and have a look. It's a real step backwards for me not having climate control in a car. I do a lot of motorway driving and sitting in traffic so I like to be kept cool.

I will update when / if I get it working incase anyone else is interested.
