Should I 205 or 195 width up front?

Post by pizza boy »

I have the stock 15s currently with 205/50/15s but Toyota recommend 195/55/15. Is 195 better overall? Will it reduce understeer/imporve overall grip? Why do some people still go for 205?

Im thinking of buyin Bridgestone Potenza S0-2s. Or are Eagle F1s better?

205's should give increase grip and turn in but you'll suffer with a bit more tramlinning at low speeds as a trade off. I have 16's with 205 front and 225 rear and find it a sensible compromise.

if you put the 195 on the front you will get more understeer.

tyre wise, if you can get S-02's then get them as they are the best

I was actually thinking about going 225/35/17 when I change the fronts as I'm running 245/35/17 on the rear at the moment?
Anybody think of any reasons why not, I asked this on the old site, about 2 minutes before it died!! :(

it depend on the alloy 8j or 7.5j not too sure the min for 7j and maxium for 7j etc apart from 215 is cheaper , but in your case 215 may be better 2 size down the back tire

Only reason I can think of ... is that 225's may not fit (!)

I've heard of people getting 215's in there though.

on the 195 vs 205 debate - 195/55's give you moe feedback through the steering, but understeer with 225s on the rear. 205's get rid of this, but there is less steering feedback - all IMHO, and tested at an Elvington Trackday ...

sorry to open up an old topic but instead of the usual 195/55/15 fitted i have had 195/50/15`s fitted is this going to cause a problem? apparently they will take the weight of the car and there was lots more choice than the other size!

thanks for advice

195-205 u shouldnt see any difference, its merely 2 cm's extra tyre. I would go for 195 though, keeps things neat and prevents any wallowing with bulging tyres.

And u can use 55/50 profiles, the basic priciple behind using 55 is that it will match up with the profile @ the rear.
