Which oil

I have read that Mr T says to use 15/50 oil. I have some 15/50 fully synthetic is this ok or should it be semi-synthetic or mineral

I use 10/40 as well. as for make, magnatec is over hyped rubbish IMO and I use millers all the way.

yep 10w40 and millers oils are very good although i only use the semi-synth stuff the mr2 as it burns off to fast otherwise.

Ive been using mobile super s 10/40 mainly cause it seemed a good oil and bargin on halfrauds trade I belive its a semi-syn

mmmmmmmm 10/40 semi synth seems to be the popular choice so it looks like a visit with ye olde trade card to Halfrauds in the near future

i would use a synthetic or semi every time. they dont breakdown as quickly as mineral oils. i agree magatec is a marketing ploy, not saying its not good oil just not the magic potion castrol would like us to believe.
the important thing to remember on a mk1 is regular changes. its high reving so the oil takes a battering. especially if you drive enthusiastically !

mineral oil is pants fine for running an engine in but thats it. it has no shear strength and breaks down very easyily.

It's fine - The reason why people are running 10w now instead of 15 is because back in the day when the mk1 was new, it needed the 15w to protect the engine. These days, 10w provides ample protection.

Small piece of information - I used to run 0w-40 (Mobil1) in the Slug (which had decent seals). Didn't use to use a lot, and used to rev really really well. One day I"ll be brave and try it in the SC as well.

the lower the first figure the thinner the oil when cold, not a bad thing this helps cold protection. the higher number is the weight when hot the higher the number the higher temp it will hold oil pressure at. so for winter you could probably run 5w30 and 10w40 in the summer. thats if you wanted the absolute optimum of course. the further apart the two numbers though the more modified the oil and the less robust it is. if you rag your engine fully synth is good it will give a bit more power last longer and be less prone to shearing under high loads ie main bearings. having said that most mr2's are not putting enough force on any internal components to warrant this. and as mentioned before full synth sticks a bit better so burns more oil the same for thinner oil.

If i changed my oil manufacturer would i notice any difference? and what difference would that be?

I change my oil every 6k if the weather is good lol Last time i let it go for 8k, it came out the same as it went in, honey
