1986 MR2 Mk1 T Bar Trackcar/Sprintcar or spares, ebay auction, £1 start

Post by Rustyracing »

1986 Toyota Mk1 MR2 T-Bar

This car was bought last summer to be used for track days. The interior has been stripped out, as well as the front boot trims and rear boot trims. The car starts, runs and idles fine but has developed an engine misfire under hard acceleration/revs. Due to this as well as the general rusty condition of the car, I am selling it on cheaply for spares or as a full restoration project.

Good points;

* 115k on the clock, TOYOTA stamps up to 75k, receipts thereafter.

* Mongoose Stainless Steel Exhaust in very good condition. I paid over £100.

* K&N air filter (recently serviced with K&N service kit)

* Front wings of car in very good condition

* Very tidy grey/black cloth seats from another Mk1 MR2

* T-Bar glass with original bags and sun-blinds

* Brand new TOYOTA Expansion tank cap

* Gearbox in great condition, smooth synchromesh, no grinding, no 5th gear popout like some

* Original 5 x MR2 teardrop alloys in good condition, tyres aren't great however, ie mismatched brands and spare is flat

* Clutch in great condition

* Recent new spark plugs, only covered 100 miles

* Engine starts first time, every time and idles ok, barking noise under heavy acceleration/revs, possibly misfire or burnt out valve. I haven't investigated any further. But engine does not (and has never) overheated. No smoke from exhaust either.

* Car still has MOT till mid-July 2008.

Bad points;

* As stated above, engine has a problem under heavy revs/acceleration. This is the reason for sale.

* Car has RUST, mainly; rear arches, front & rear valances, top of windscreen, radiator is pretty bad but not holed, front boot has had filler to patch holes, and a few other places. However, base of A and B pillars and front wings are solid.

* Front lower lip spoiler cracked in a couple of places.

* Dent in drivers door, doesn't affect door opening/closing

* Small dent in passenger side upper rear panel, by bootlid

* Scratch on drivers side door to rear quarter panel, keyed

* Passenger side body skirt "triangle" piece has come off due to rusty attach points.

* Electric windows work, but are jerky due to teeth missing on cogs. Common problem.

* Car has no interior! Apart from seats, centre console and dash.

* Car has no Tax, currently SORN'd. (I used to trailer to track days)

Overall

This car would make a good spares car, a restoration project or fix the engine and have a go at trackdays for 4 months before worrying about the MOT.

I will not break for bits, I don't have the time, space or patience. I don't mind someone else buying the car to break for bits and you'd be welcome to make a profit doing so. I reckon there's an easy few hundred of good parts on the car.

The car is listed on ebay, there's no reserve, it started at £1. It sells for the highest bid, whatever that may be.

Here's the listing, there's a few pics on there;

Car is located in Newport, South Wales - near to J28 of the M4.

Thanks for looking,
