When i bought my rev3 tubby in the summer i payed 2600 (knocked down from 3700) for it with the understanding that it needed 2 new tyres and a clutch change, when i HPI'd that car the valuation came back at £10 short of 5K?? iv done a few bits to it to tidy it up but very much doubt its worth the valuation?

As for the british used car market, its very unstable, and all depends on what time of year you try and sell your car, the month of registration change being the worst to seel a second hand motor. if you shine a mint motor up and advertise it where enthusiasts are you may well get a reasonable price, As for Ttops and like they are best advertised in the summer all shined up cruising along or parked up at a beach to get the optimum potential just dont advertise a crazy price as this will instantly put people off.

sorry meant to add that remember some mods on sale work for you some dont, a respray will raise eyebrows as it can be used to cover up certain mishaps or years of wear on bodywork,

how often do you think porches and ferraris and cars like that have full re-sprays? they get sprayed on average every 3 years due to stone chips and fade...

i know ppl would see it as a cover up... but it would be more of a cover up if i was to change the colour.

plus i have pictures of it when it was in the bodyshop with all the repairs it had done, to prove it wasnt to "cover" anything up.... it was well documented

No I know what you mean, my red NA was fading in places so I had her fully resprayed but it was still the first question asked when I said to a buyer it had been resprayed...

is a figure of around £2,500 (obviously before bargaining buyers start lol) a fair price for a rev3 uk t-bar in Caribbean Blue?

Wont be dropping price yet as its not even fully advertised (in my experience i've advertised 2 cars on pistonheads in the last year, my 106 Rallye sold to the first guy to view, less than 24hrs after it went up on pistonheads) but a bit concerned im going to wait a while for a buyer really.

Has few bits like adjustable susp, few other mods and brand new clutch and fsh etc :)

Is in classifieds.

If you could pm me your thoughts would be appreciated :)

In all honesty i think as time goes on the prices might climb i've noticed there doesnt seem to be alot of MK2s floating around my area in good condition which i think sooner or later will be destined for the scrap yards then of course MR2 owners will have there hand in controlling the market!! :)

LOL! yeah, must have gold flecks in the paint or something...but to expect to be able to add this expensive respray to the "sale" price is highly unrealistic.

By all means advertise it for 6K, but the only people you'll get turning up are those wanting to beat you up for being so cheeky on the price, not those eager to part with their hard-earned...

Personally, I think resprays should add value to the car. It's an expensive job to do and can make a huge difference to the looks of the car and it's desirability.

I think mine has had a respray at some point as it's very shiny for a 14 year old car. I see it as a positive thing though. Okay, it could possibly have had a bump but it's not always a major problem if it's been repaired properly.

I would pay extra for a nice resprayed car if a good job was done.

If it's got extras, I don't want them...

Post by ski »

Maybe I am a luddite, but don't want all the extras. I spent a long time looking for a clean car last summer and paid £5k from a dealer - which may be a lot, but a private seller wasn't going to part-ex my shitty Clio...

I got a 96 10th anniversary edition with 42k on the clock, FDSH and NO MODS. Some people still want a car that has not been messed around with or thrashed into the ground - I would be more wary of a car that had aftermarket stuff, especially performance bits because the owner would have possibly thrashed it, so I would expect to pay less. Maybe that's naive and I paid over the odds for the car, but I was happy to pay that price, did not feel ripped of and I reckon if I garaged my car for 10 years, it would be worth more than some of the stuff with "extras" because it's original and unsullied.

I am still considering spending a few K on a Turbo, just for the experience of it, but it will be a while yet as I have a lot of reading to do...

You may spend 1000's on a car, but you do that because you love it, not because you are going to make a killing when you sell it...

i agree with you there about spending money on my car because i love it, but the reason i would mark the price up is because hopefully the next owner wants a mint example and will love it asmuch as i do...

Dreamer

I picked up a rev3 tintop turbo 94 for 1400 quid the other day! Just needs new clutch and the brakes sorting out.

Its got a toms rear bumper, sideskirts and a respray 2 years ago, 2 sets of alloys, tidy interior etc and a few extras.

Sorry but 6k is just totally unrealistic im afraid :?

This topic has been discussed many, many, many, many times before.

The second hand car market for any car in the UK is at rock bottom at the moment. You may get 6K for your car and then again you may not. It's only worth what people are willing to pay.

Personally i'd be quite thrilled if you managed to get 6K for it, but when it boils down to it, it's a 10+ year old toyota that are 10 a penny.

Personally I think advertising at a higher than average price is not a bad thing (as it suggests the condition is also better than average) but you must be willing to take an offer for a fair bit less.

When I bought my rev3 Tubby it was at the time one of the more expensive ones advertised, it was in great condition and had low miles but I still negotiated £1500 off to bring it more inline with the price of other examples.
