[All] [Generic] Crashed into

Post by JohnnyC »

I'll never sell my car if I decide to with posts like these

So I'm parked at the side of the road with a load of other cars due to the gym carpark being full.

Sat waiting to pick someone up, engine off, James Blunt CD playing 8)
Woman approaches the car infront (MUST see my car as she approached it shirley!!).
She (& her son) get in, she's in & out a couple of times with a squirty bottle of something, spraying her windscreen.
Eventually, her reverse lights come on (I'd left approximately a 6 feet gap), she reverses towards me, no brake lights come on - so I'm straight on the horn, crash boom bang (at about 2mph)!!

Now get this, she then drives off

So I quickly start the car, and go after her flashing and sounding the horn, after about 20 metres she pulls over

She 'claims' she wasn't doing a runner, she was getting to somewhere to park out of peoples way - errrr, she was out of peoples way where she was

Anyway, got her details.
Had a look, and will have a better look in the morning, but fortunately there appears to be no damage whatsoever, it'd have been my number plate she hit (mines a UK car that has the big plate holder that) with her squidgy Renault Megane rear bumper.

My video camera didn't capture it either as I switch it off when the engine isn't running. But to think, the reason why I wait inside my car is for precisely this reason.

that's just plain selfishness on her behalf, probably thought no one was in the car....just like the typical supermarket car park vandal...if you would like to get evens then you need to check to make sure she has not damaged any mounts that hold the bumper in place as well as any scratches on the bumper...its a 2 hour job to get the bumper off and on again so there`s £70 straight away just checking for the obvious....

she`s not a nice person and deserves it :-k

Bad luck mate. Hopefully all's well in the morning -I think you're right in saying "squidgy bumpers" but with any luck the merd which was holding her megane bumpers on has given way as payback.

...I'd agree with the last post get everything checked out and back charge anything which has gone.

I could make a sexist remark but I won't ....or is it too late.

The crash impact foam will be ruined, it takes all the impact and sacrifices itself. The next crash will not be that nice.

Get it changed and charge her for it at main dealer rates, don't over or undercharge her or do whiplash claims [-X

That's fair and square, also report here for hit and run, tomorrow she might do that to a child :(

Best luck

Always amazes me to find that the people guilty of this sort of thing are "normal" people.
I mean, you kind of expect them to be chav's or gypo's or whatever but it's often mums or sales-reps etc who're the worst for this. It's just as if they don't care and they hate it when somebody spots them acting like c*nts.

I recently parked my MR2 next to a very nicely modded MX5 in a car-park while I did a bit of shopping. On the way back to my car I couldn't believe it as I saw some woman in a Focus start to pull out of the space next to the MX5, turn sharp left and side-swipe the MX5 so hard she dragged the MX5 sideways.

I ran up to her to stop her cos I was worried she'd push the MX5 into my car and I was surprised to notice that she had her husband/bf in the passenger seat (right next to the MX5 she'd just hit) and a toddler in the back.

In a flash of inspiration I whipped out my phone and took a picture of the Focus's number plate and then another one of the whole scene.
The husband started to get out of the car and moan at me but the woman was telling him to get back in and they started to drive off.
Fortunately, with incredibly good timing, the MX5 owner appeared and headed straight to the exit kiosk before the Focus could leave. Apparently the Focus driver denied the accident and was allowed to leave but the attendant checked the CCTV footage and confirmed he had the accident on tape.
Cos the car park had the accident on tape my photo's weren't required in the end.

I just find it amazing that people can be so shameless about it. How can the owner deny hitting the other car despite me seeing her?
I mean, that's what insurance is for. One phone admitting liability and they'll sort it all out after that. Geez! Why the effort?

agree...having an accident then trying to leave can be 6-8 points, a few hundred quid fine and hopefully the embarrassment of having your name in the local paper...karma is what she deserves :-k

TBH I don't think the knock was anywhere near severe enough.

Had a look in the daylight, not a mark at all. Although typical - it was raining this morning when I had chance to look, so I'll have a real proper look (including behind the bumper, and removing the number plate) at the weekend.

Oh and afterwards I quickly parked the car on some grass, which turned out to be mostly mud, and I ended up stuck and just spinning the wheels

Damn right.. b1tch deserves that for driving off..

I'll admit I've done similar, had a bump at about 2mph.. lol.. but I did get out to check it was all okay, and told the owner of the car...

The amazing thing is that some people (mostly women  ) think that's what 'bumpers' are for - to gauge when they're at the end of the car park space  ](*,) #-o  [-X :pale:

A 50 year old woman tried to drive off after hitting my stationary car and I legged it after her - was in my kitchen and was quicker to run than turn the car round  All was sorted out and she felt like an ar$e, as she rightly should

Hmm sorry to hear but hope all is well with the car :thumleft: .

This kind of thing reminds me of the car door bashers in car parks! I've been sat in my car before and a woman fumbling around in her car has hit my tubby not once, twice, (thrice???) but FOUR bloody times ... without even a sorry???? And they don't even appear to notice that they've done it!!!!! ](*,) .

What is wrong with these people????

Didn't want to take anything from your original post JohnnyC but it makes me so mad I just had to rant!

And here I thought I was the only one! Hate shops and shopping prefer a day trip to have drilling at the Dentist from Eastern Europe! Sitting in my previous [Super-Rare] White Levin Two Door Coupe [Super-Charger] 1989, park best I can allowing best clearance all round, chose the least packed most further est away parking location etcetera. No no no posh mom and brat packs come pilling in to their [50 K] 4 x 4 [TANK] with out a care in the world or an observation of [WHAT] is around them or just where other cars are in relation to their huge doors! Doors are flung open and closed left right and centre and the little boy of about 6 ODD slams his door straight into the bodyworks right on to me right in front of my eyes.

Get out the car and demand an apology immediately from the lady driver who naturally as expected gets defensive quoting how little and young and how does a kid expect to know what to do and or are not responsible for their actions so to speak. So mentioned this was the reason I was speaking with her and that although it might look like a 'cheap' old 1989 run around in fact she was only one of two in the whole of the UK and was my pride and joy and that it hurt me when she got hurt. Any way there was no escape clause for her on that day and she refused to apologise. All the kids look on besumed and the ethos of the day was training for her of the training of her kids whilst out en about! Lets put it this way I was not going to get any *[reverse-dumping] and she did storm off in a rage after finding me to be a rather tough; upset customer. Any way what did it achieve? well bloody bu88er all ! but I did feel a bit better myself, afterwards and hope fully instilled a bit more general respect, for people, and their property around them! Yeah, right! Moral of the story keep the hell away from shops, supermarkets=not super*,and those darn car parks,no sorry banger-parks!

No, she'll just have wandered off thinking that some mad bloke ranted at her.

Solipsism. It's written through the British public like "Blackpool" on rock. It just gets moreso when they breed ;)

Surprisingly, I always park MILES from everything, and yet I always find someone has parked next to my car. The Delica, however, does not get people reversing into it.

Accidents do happen - it's the attitude of people afterwards. I hit someone's Fiesta a few months ago when swerving to avoid a reversing Rav4 - clipped the bumper, left a mark. I waited for them for a while, then went into the shop to ask for them to be paged and to get a pen, then went back out and the car had gone :( So they probably either didn't notice the mark, or just assumed someone had run off after bashing their car.

Likewise, an elderly woman hit my Chevette in the classic "reversing out of space" accident. It tore her bumper off, but she was so worried about my reaction she drove off like mad when I hurried up towards my car - mine was unmarked!

with the mr2 being so low ive had a transit van reverse straight into me at morrisons! :( took the front wing and door out :(. when the bloke jumped out he told me to get in the van and he willl drive us to the woods and give me his insurance details there  he was huge...and obviously had no intention of giving me his details. I wrote down the number on the side of the van and tracked him down through that :thumleft: turned out he was some sort of judo champ. since then i park it as far away from the enterance as possible, less hassel!

I trust you reported him to the Police?

I could be a total psychopath, but if I reverse into someone it's my fault and I'm damn well going to own up, not try and intimidate them into letting me get away with it.

Judo champ maybe, but he still sounds like a willy who deserves to be in some degree of hassle.

I forgot the classic one that happened to me, actually - I'm waiting to turn right at a junction, and a silver Cortina Mk V estate comes around the bend, smacks the rear door on the 205 I had at the time, and drives off! I run after him, he doesn't stop... but Cinderalla left her shoe - a corner bumper with overspray on. Go around every garage in town, and sure enough, there's a silver Cortina with badly painted wings and a missing corner bumper.

Chat to the garage owner (known to me anyway - small towns and all that) and say "Well, these are rare cars. Reckon the owner wants to sell?" He gives me the guys number, I pop off down to the retirement park where the owner lives (in the 205), park it dent facing his door, and say Hi :D...

He says he thought it was one way and I was going the wrong way. Then he says he thought I'd pulled out. Then he finally admits he hadn't realised he'd hit me. I suggest because he may have been drunk. He says nothing. This guy, incidentally, is a retired police officer...

Sends me back to his garage to get an estimate, hands over the cash.

"You won't prosecute me for failing to stop, will you?"

"No mate. I won't. You might, however, need to have a quiet word with the officer I reported the incident to who saw it happen from the Police station window..."

I believe he stopped driving a court case after that. If he'd stopped, I'd have taken £40 for a second hand door and left it at that, but in the end he forked out £200 (the estimate) and had rather more Police scrutiny on the way home from the pub.
