Just looking for a little advice over here as theres alot more products avaliable for the mr2 than the gt4.
im currently speaking to Tim about a gt3076r turbo kit for my celica st205 and im also looking at a greddy t67 kit from greenline
im just wondering what kits you chaps use, if you have any other recommendations on turbo kits, or places to buy turbo kits?
thanks in advance

Re: [All] [Generic] which turbo kit do you guys use
I use a precision sc61 turbo with the extreme boost manifold
Cracking kit.
previously i have the ATS TD06 which is awesome
The gt turbo range is newer technology but I wouldnt believe all the spool speed garbage that goes on about dual ball bearings etc.
greddy kit is a big one too but usually big money.
Firstly do you have any supporting mods and what power are you shooting for?

Re: [All] [Generic] which turbo kit do you guys use
my turbo wasn't a kit, but it is a GT3076. I think the 3076 is a good match for the 2.0 3s-gte. People in the USA always seem to complain about little faults with the greddy kits (mostly the TD06 though). Quite shocked that there's more choice shown in the mr2 market than the celica one.

hi mate,
supporting mods are
lined block,
custom je pistons
carrello rods
trd big ends + mains
new pumps
hks cambelt
arp bolts everywhere
twin plate clutch
1.4mm head gasket
272 cam kit
hybrid fmic kit plus a few other bits and pieces.
as for goals, you know what its like, id like to see 450 flywheel horsepower but in 6 months time im sure i'll want 500
i heard the ats td-06 chargers where good but where prone to failure,
how did you get on with yours?.
also a friends running his td-06 at 1.5bar and gets alot of compressor surge but it is home mapped, did you suffer from this at all?
ta
Re: [All] [Generic] which turbo kit do you guys use
I wonder where you could have heard that??
I have NEVER heard of any ATS turbos being prone to failure! EVER!!
However given your list and goals id say your looking more towards the gt35 sc61 sized range as 500 is out of reach for the TD06.

Re: [All] [Generic] which turbo kit do you guys use
there was a ats group buy for the td-06 a while back and a few people mentioned them being prone to failure.
what about compressor surge, did you suffer from this at all?

Re: [All] [Generic] which turbo kit do you guys use
absolutely none at all
the greddy td06 struggle with overboost issues etc as they are internally gated but the ats kits are externally gated and suffer no such issues

gt3582 with all homemade parts (Downpipe, dump tube, manifold adapter, hoses & brackets)
GT35 - £905
Downpipe - bought xs-power pipe and cut the end off it, welded on v-band £90
Adapter - paid £90 for one, cut an inch of depth out of it, sliced off the wastegate flange, rebored the hole to 40mm, put 40mm right angle tube on, welded new flange to clear inlet manifold - total cost in parts £100
hose - braided oil hose (merlinmotorsport) - total £20
hose ends - from speedflow - total £30
dump tube & Flange again home made, pipe cost me £10, flange £10
Support bracket - I just used the new plasma cutter to cut a section of steel plate 8mm thick - £free (Was laying in the yard)
I make that £1165
Kits cost about £2000
I'm lucky in that I can TIG weld. That probably saved a bit
woops - left wastegate off that
Got a brand new Tial from the states at £105 (Same one sells over here for £200) - got away with import duty
edit - here is a pic of the modded downpipe and adapter - I have located the wastegate up there as I'm going to put the dumptube out the side vent. The wastegate bolts there are temporary.
I'm going to heat wrap the turbo hot side, the downpipe, and try for the manifold too
