[Mk2] [Turbo] speedo delimiting?

Post by Mr Two »

Hi all
Just a quick one here - my speedo only goes to 110mph, just purchased 180mph dials so i take it mine hasn't been delimited? what do i have to do to have the speedo reading the correct speed on the 180mph dial.

Thanks
Dave

Buy a delimiter from twosrus.co.uk

This will delimit your car and change the speedo to read 0-180MPH

delimit

Not correct. If you install a delimiter they are also converters, so you MUST leave your KPH speedo in and blank out the K from the KMH. If you delimit and install a 180 mph speedo you'll add 0.4 mph on each mile and it will be severely innacurate. Speedo limiting is a simple device which is triggered when you reach 180KPH and by making the KPH into MPH you won't hit 180MPH so will never encounter the limit.

I'm afraid you appear to be misreading/misunderstanding the query. There is no such thing as a 180mph speedo head for a mk2 MR2. The original poster is referring (I believe) to 180mph dial faces which will have the same markings (with the exception of the KPH label) as the stock 180kph dials.

The clamping delimiter will then alter the input to the speedo head so that
10kph -> 10mph
20kph -> 20mph
etc...

The speedo will not read 40% over as you have suggested. I've no idea what makes you think it will.

The speedo heads came in the following flavours:
0-140mph UKDM 3S-FE
0-160mph UKDM 3S-GE
0-180kph JDM (all except TRD special editions)
0-300kph JDM TRD

Anything else is just a different dial face

I'm afraid you are mistaken here. The limit is not moved to 180mph with a clamping delimiter. With a clamping delimiter, the limit is never reached as the maximum speed reported to the ECU is capped. The actual "limiting" is performed by the ECU.

I guess the best way to be sure here is just check the kph markings are at the same angles on the two sets of dials. It's grand if they are.
