Moderator stepping down

Post by Speedy »

It is with sadness that I say that EarL has decided to leave the moderating team. I think EarL (Glen) is a really great guy, and he will be missed by the rest of the team & admins.

I wish him all the best for the future.

Would also like to say that it is a shame EarL has stepped down, but I would like to thank EarL for all his work for the club.

Being a mod isn't easy and EarL knows all about that. He has my utmost respect for his fair and balanced views, especially so given the difficult situations he has had to face.

He will be missed.

Earl has made a positive contribution to the team and I appreciated his support when I was on the Committee and have considered him as a fair moderator. He will be missed by the Moderation team.

Many thanks to the Admin/Mods/Comittee for thier kind words. I shall continue to post here, but feel that under the circumstances, I can no longer moderate with an unbiased view.

My reason for leaving is due to the comittee trying to enforce a rule, whereby NOBODY is allowed to mention, publicise or display pictures relating to Tee_Bee_Devel0pment$ products or services.

This is normally called CENSORSHIP, and is against the law.

Despite my and Tiamat's (who is a solicitor I might add!) best efforts, they have decided to procede in enforcing this ruling.

I cannot condone such a ruling, and see no reason why it should be inflicted on every member, when thier greivance is soley with the proprieter (Tim).

The upshot of this is, they will remove any post relating to Tee_Bee_Devel0pment$, edit any signature with the Tee_Bee_Devel0pment$ name in it, and generally censor all words entered into the site by way of a filter, and replace it with something else.

OTT?

You decide...

Sorry to hear you are going Earl.

I've no sympathy with the rest though, this is an individual who has threatened the site and continues to be combative despite being warned and warned again. Some people might take the hint and leave it for a bit, shame really. Before anyone moans the site was never threatened, I've yet to see the full correspondence so have my own beliefs until then.

It's obvious if this step isn't taken the site will still be used to advertise through the medium of continuous recommendations by friends I'd guess, plus the pimping of their forum which IMOC has never allowed anyone to do!! I'm sorry to see it come to this, but sometimes I guess people get to the end of their tether.

Toni,

I can agree with virtually every step the admin team has taken with this issue, and it's not that I take offence to, it's my rights as a member of this PUBLIC forum, and being forced to abide by a ruling that has nothing to do with me.

3S and Rogue have pi$$ed people off in the past, but you don't see the filter being turned on against thier name.

For the record, I make no professional comment on the actions taken by the Committee and will leave all postings on this matter in the Moderators Forum.

This thread is not for discussion of anything between TB and IMOC. It is here for Earl to announce his decision. If its not on Earl's decision then post elswhere.

Sorry to read this, it's sad how all the good people step down while the obnoxious power-hungry ones cling onto their thrones and won't entertain the idea of their positions being put to a vote because they are scared.

It's been like this for years though, usually with the same person at the root of all the upset...

Alan, we're sorting out the issues here. Hopefully what comes out in the next couple of days will be beneficial to everyone.

Would be interested in reading the essay you had prepared earlier.

Sorry to see you stepping down Earl :( - but i understand your reasoning and for what it's worth i agree.

I have my own opinion about Tim and his previous antics, but to prevent joe bloggs from mentioning his name, signature or otherwise is a bit wrong IMO - but it's just MO

Earl you mentioned you would be over on Tim's Forum - are you just stepping down as a Moderator or moving completely from IMOC ?

can you please clarify old chap. :thumleft:

total respect to you for standing up for your principles  - straight down the line Earl as usual. Top Banana :thumleft: 8)

Sorry to see you go Earl, always thought your posts were fair.

As for your reasons, I agree you should stand up (or stand down?) for them where necessary which shows good character.

I do not agree with the censorship of T1m$ company name, and without an open thread to voice my opinions directly, this off-topic thread seems to have become the arena for voicing that opinion.

I think pretty much this seems to sum up the whole situation, just seems a bit of an excessive step.

I thought from the beginning, instead of an instant ban on Tim, try a month ban, then if wrong is done again, another month, 3 months then out if ya like. Would've saved the need for all this agro & "legal" worrying.

But this censorship seems a bit wrong to me, for anyone not to be allowed to mention his name/business for any reason just seems utter nonsense to me IMHO obviously.
