Changing Oil

Post by jamief »

Okay, coulple of questions, the first of which Im embarased to ask!

Where is the plug which I remove to drain the oil?

And where can I get a new gasket for this plug? Or would I be as well buying a magnetic sump plug?

Cheers :)

The plug is at the bottom of the sump... 14mm if i remember correctly. Get a sump washer from Toyota, they cost around 30p i think.

Sorry should be more specific -

Do I need to jack the car up to get to the plug, or can I get at it from near the wheel arch or something?

Cheers!

How about this article in the knowledge base:

Its easier to do it if you jack it up. You'll need axle stands of course. It really depends if your drain container can fit under the sump without jacking the car up.

Yes you will need to either jack the car up or put it on ramps to have sufficient room to drain it :)

£1.22 (not including VAT) from your mates at Monty's of Sheffield

First time I did mine was with a trolley jack & axle stands, but last time I just put some patio slabs down as a makeshift ramp - was only about 3 inches of the ground but was enough :)

They're a disgrace TBH  £9.02 for my filter, but was £5.95 the next time I needed one :?

Thing is, it's handy as they're on my way to work, and I need to get some new anti-squeal shims and a few other bits.... aww man this is gonna hurt, where's the lube....

jacking not essential. i have never needed to and my car is lowered. and this obviously helps to get as much old oil out as poss.

but it probably helps :P
