sorry, ARC box with arc filter.
Bought from Jamitsi

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
I bought a limited edition Apexi because they have the best performance increase and filtration.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
We're talking after market performance air filters but where is the performance.

I've read
(can't remember where now) that the standard air box is good for up to 350BHP.

Does anyone have any data on whether these after market Performance air filters actually add BHP.
Currently i'm on the belief they just sound good and nothing more.

I can see them adding a negligible amount
(2-3BHP) on a naturally aspirated engine but on a turbo i'm not sure

Hopefully someone can offer some horse power facts on these?

woo hooo, sounds like a winner.
An extra 14BHP by sticking on of the Apexi filters on.

Thanks for the info

Not sure how much power you would get on a mr2 but theses tests were done on a Skyline
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
afaik, that test was also sponsered by apexi i heard, pmsl!
or a magazine that is sponsered by them.

maybe 14bhp on a skyline running 800bhp!

on an mr2, youll be lucky to get any sort of gains, noone you would be able to notice anyway.

I just put an Apexi on over the weekend and i'm sure it has made a bit of difference albeit very small.
I definitely wouldn't say 14hp tho!

It does sound very nice so I'm happy with that even if the performance gain is just in my head

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
I wonder what the New HKS reloaded filters are like they are 3 layer dry foam instead of the old 2 layer oil type,

Any one heard anything about em
?

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
I really wouldnt take that article at face value as its known to very controversial and not a realistic test.

I heard it was sponsered by apexi and they use a vacuum cleaner which is hardly an accurate way a filter acts on the car.

The induction kits will all add a similar amount of bhp which by the way isnt very much on a standard tuned car.
The main reason for the change is for the noise factor and the bling in the engine bay

Btw my HKS has been on the car for 40000 miles and with the element being changed every 1-2 years and the inside of the filter and the intake is as clean as a whistle.

Skylines

I think the best thing to do with any car is to examine whether its standard intake is effecient or not before upgrading.

Oh dear, I had no idea I'm supposed to change the paper filter on my HKS, where do you get them from? Are they just the standard Halfords type?

should be foam and not paper.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
Im tempted by the Arc box.
Only 180 quid delivered from Japan.

http://www.nengun.com/arc/super-induction-box
Or the Apexi kit which ive got on my Aristo.
Theyre
£73 delivered and as theyre so light, ya never get any extra tax.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
if were talkin perfomance.
on a turbo.
then the original air box with a performance filter added is probably best.
maybe with some ducting from the wing intake.
.
im sure mark edwards proved this years ago.
( i could be wrong
)

i think it was because all cone filters draw in warm engine air.
thus dropping the power down a bit.

an aftermarket intake on a turbo is bought mainly for the noise i think.

correct me if im wrong.
but ive never seen any evidence to prove cone filter give the massive gains the claim.

i have a blitz lm series and it sound awesome
.
lol

exactly, it depends on the car and how restrictive the stock intake system is.

turbos just need low restriction, but low heat soak is also preferable
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Best induction Kit to buy????
Sure, everything said so far sounds correct.
.
.

But why can't the cone be located near the side vent and with a custom box to isolate it from the engine bay heat?

Surely the extra flow and the cold intake should help.
.
.
not a big
(or even noticeable) increase but shouldn't be worst than stock right?

I mean, for both N/A or turbo.
.
.

Just my 2 cents.

Vítor
