Pics of my car...

Post by m4rcus »

What do you think... looks clean... but it's not.

The first one is an HDR shot... (check wikipedia for HDR shots)

The second is one that I applied a few filters too...

May have made it look crap with the photoshopping of the numberplate.

A few filters? :)
The second one is definitely far too overdone.
The first is better, but you've still overdone it on that one in terms of filters... the shadow for a start is definitely wrong...
Think you should give it another try. The art of using filters properly and trying HDR is to do it gently and apply subtle changes so that people cannot tell that you've done anything to the shot...

The first is mearly a combination of three photos using the HDR method. The range of manipulating an HDR photos is extensive and on the first one I've taken it to the extreme as I think it produces quite a nice finish. My aim in producing the first one was not one of just lightly appling the process, but one of producing an extreme photo. The fact that it does not look real is perfect for me :)

The second seriously is only one filter from the first. It's a (detailed) comic book style. For this I used 'Poster Edges' in Photoshop. I like the way the wheel tread has come out because it is turned.

Yup, looked like poster edges. Personally (just what I'd do!) I would use thinner strokes. Plus, it'd probably be better if the wall behind the '2 wasn't there as a lighter background behind would give better contrast of the car - showing it off more. I like the wall to the side of the car though as it means some nice reflections... But if you can find somewhere where there's a bit more contrast behind the car, it would really show it off well - IMO.

I'm going to have a play with the pic tonight as I did only use a small image file as I was playing on the laptop which is a bit... crap. Will use the full 10M pics on the desktop, which I think, when I apply the poster edges it'll produce something a little different...

I quite like the wall behind the car, it kinda makes you look at it more to see the car. The green (tree leaves) adds something to it also. The whole shot was not even set up, it's where I park my car every night and went out to take a picture of my bumper where a woman reversed into it, but paused to take the shot(s).

I may try one with a little more elevation to it... though I'd need to wash it first :)
