just had a new turbo

Post by adam maclean »

Ive finally had my car back after nearly a month away having a new turbo fitted (complicated reason). Ive now got a few questions: How long do i have to wait until i can up the boost? Does any one know where i can take it, in the south wales area, to have it rolling roaded and checked out? Also ive just noticed an oil burning smell when its been driven and is ticking over/cooling down. Any body know what this could be and if theres anywhere likely that oil could be leaking from, probably dripping onto the exhaust.

Oil could be leaking from the turbo to oil pipe gasket and dripping down onto the engine, get underneath and have a look around.

The turbo will onyl need about 50 miles of average driving then you can boost whatever you like, if its a standard turbo that you have had put on or rebuilt then you wont need it rolling roaded or anything,

Paid about £300 to have it fitted with some driveshaft work as well. Smell pf oil burning seems to be getting less now. I was told that there would be an oily smell for a little while afterwards. Is this right? Also im wondering if gradient is a factor as ive only smelled oil when the car is on our drive (Sloped) but not on the flat. any ideas?

most components come new with a light coating of oil to protect from rust - this will burn off shortly.

Was your oil turbo passing oil through the seals? If so, this could have pooled in your intercooler or air pipes, and is now getting blown through the engine by the new turbo?

just noticed a tiny drip of oil on the drive. the burning smell has all but gone now. this is the first time ive noticed any drips and the cars been back a week. could this be caused by old oil being blown out of the system?
