1998 MR2 GT Coupe for sale

1998 Toyota MR2 2.0 GT 16v for sale

The essentials:

S Reg Rev 5, UK Car
80,500 miles.
Full service history
MOT & Tax till July 2007
Cosmos Blue paintwork
Cat 1 alarm immobiliser

Price £4250 ono.

The details:

Registered on an “S” plate, this iconic sports car has 80,500 miles with Full Toyota Service History apart from the last minor service carried out 700 miles ago by local garage at time of MOT. The MOT runs until July 4th 2007 and the car is taxed until July 2007 also.

The car is the sunroof model, meaning you get a pop-up glass sunroof which can be removed and stowed in the front bonnet. We have found that this works better than a T-Bar since you are more likely to use the sunroof more of the time. This is our third MR2, the other two being Mk1 T-Bar’s, so we are speaking from experience.

Its paintwork is the rare Cosmos Blue paintwork, which is really a Purple colour. It suits the curves of the car and looks classier than the normal Red, White or Black. The car is the desirable Rev 5 edition (meaning clear lenses at the front and the brilliant adjustable angle spoiler at the rear) of the Mk2 MR2 and is arguably one of the best affordable sports cars of the 90’s.

The car is in great condition inside and out, the interior is immaculate – the dash has not been marked, scuffed, scratched or scraped; nor have the seats. All electrics work fine and the car drives well, as it should. There are no known problems with the engine, or indeed any aspect of the car, that we are aware of. And believe me, we are picky about our cars.

It’s a UK supplied car in rare virtually unmodified form, the only major aftermarket addition being a set of recently refurbished 17 inch 5-spoke alloys wheels.

The tyres are all V-grooved premium sports tyres with very good tread, 215/40/17 BF Goodrich’s on the front, 235/40/17 Goodyear Eagle F1’s on the back (a Toyota inspection, 150 miles ago, gave 8mm tread all round).
The front brake discs and pads were replaced just over 3000 miles ago with Black Diamond Grooved Discs and Pads which give a little extra stopping power over the standard equipment.

The car has had 3 previous owners, the last two being boyfriend and now girlfriend of the same (non-smoker) professional couple. We are selling due to the fact that since moving house to within walking distance of work and buying a sensible estate car for taking our dog for walkies, the MR2 is now a third car and has only covered 3000 miles in the last year. Most of the miles were covered last summer, the MR2 having been garaged all through the winter. We have come to realize we just aren’t going to use it much anymore and can’t justify keeping it.

We have all the paperwork, V5, service history book, instruction manual, bills and 2 sets of keys for the car. The car has been fitted with a Thatcham Category 1 Laserline alarm immobilizer with remote activation and remote central locking for which we have 2 transponders and the installation certificate. I think we also have the original transponders for the factory fitted immobilizer. We have a snooper power cable and bracket fitted inside the car but this could be easy removal for those who wouldn’t want it.

The only bad point about the car is the usual stone chips to the front end as you'd expect from a car of this age and with the front end so low to the ground. The headlight covers and bonnet lip have already been touched up with a re-spray but a touch-up/re-spray of the front valence/spoiler would finish the car off nicely.

The car is offered for sale at £4250 ono, which we think is a fair price taking into account the mileage, condition and comparing details of similar vehicles.

We welcome any inspection, encourage any serious viewing and would be happy to take prospective buyers for a spin in the car (you only get to drive if you can provide proof of valid insurance coverage - or the asking price in cash!). Speaking of which, the car will only be released once funds have cleared. No time-wasters or scammers please, it’s a genuine good car described honestly and a regretted sale, please don’t make it any harder.

Call Damien on 07966 483719 if you need more details and/or wish to arrange a viewing. Car based in Newport, South Wales.
