HKS SSQV

Post by Driftlimits Performance »

Just got one on my car because my Blitz SS let go. Was blowing on idle.

The HKS is cool, I think I've got the purple fin thingy in at the mo. Is there a way of making it sound slightly less like a dog whistle? I like the fluttering noise it makes, but the initial whistle is pretty high + loud.

Any ideas anybody?

TIA

You can change to the gold fin which has quieter sound.

I think the inserts are suprisingly cheap, £12 or so.....

Envy usually have a few in stock.

Anybody know what sound it makes without the fins at all?

I like a loud dv, but the really high whistle is a pain.

For a short period I removed the silver fin that came with the dump valve and had the SSQV dumping through a tube with no fins (the recirculating adapter piece). The sound was less hissy and far more muted - quite unimpressive really. You definitely need the fin in place to get a good sound.

Here we are:

http://www.envyperformance.com/index.cf ... ct_ID=1941

£15.00 each.

"The HKS SSQV silver triple-fin discharge design produces a powerful and unique aggressive blow-off sound along with added visual distinction. Additional triple-fin inserts are available in gold (standard high frequency sound) for visual appeal and in purple metallic (emits a lower frequency sound than both the standard and gold SSBV inserts) for an alternate sound and appearance. SSQV inserts are easily interchangeable within minutes"

I *think* that there's the purple one on there already, which is meant to make the lower sound. The gold one must be really high! I'm going to have a closer look at the weekend.

Still, can't complain, 6month old HKS DV for £50 :P

the gold and silver one are the same i think, just different colours. The purple is quitest and sounds like a normal dump valve. The silver insert has got a great whistle to it

The silver one came with the BOV and sounds like a budgie churping; far too high piched and noisy. I bought the lower frequency purple one from twosrus at mr2oc for 17 quid. It sounds better now, lower frequency sound, a bit more masculine :)
Ite difference between the two (physically) seems to be that the silver one has an extra circle of plastic, biving it that budgie churp sound!

Does anyone know what dump valve the green eclipse is running on The fast ande the furious. That sounds cool an initial high pitched dump followed by a slow whine. It also sounds similar to the balck civics. I know the supra was using an Apexi twin chamber.

okaly dokaly,

For those with an HKS SSQV, I've snapped the 3 prong fin (standard silver one) and left just one small plastic leg on. This has drastically changed the sound.

No longer have I got the gay whistle, but makes and awesome chooooo noise with a voilent fluttering noise. coming off part throttle really sounds cool. Very rally car-esk.

So any one with a spare fin, break the prongs off and see how that sounds!
