Urgent Advice please

Post by blueorb »

Ok, Topspec have found me a car '92 gt turbo in black, just what I want!!
Only done 22,000miles.

My max budget is £4500, but have been advised that it could go for a little more (This is all inclusive price inc importing and reg)

Should I go a little higher, say £300 more or is that too much for a 92 car?

It is very low mileage and grade 4

Please help.

I need to let them know asap

hmmm, £4800 for a rev 2 is expensive. However if he can assure you it's a low mileage minter then it could be worth it.

HTH mate

As above really, if it is MINT then it'll be worth it.

Is it standard or modded? If it's modded just make sure it has bits that you want on anyway adn that'll save you money.

For that money you could probably find a tidy (ish) Rev 3, but then I think a real mint Rev 2 is a better buy.

Just my 2p! :D

hmmmm.

Did you want a dumpvalve further down the line?

Are you going to want to significantly tune it down the line?

Tough call mate.
As above though...if it's mint...go for it.
I was on a budget of £1100-£1200 for a mk1 but when I saw the car I'm currently trying to buy at a price of £1500 I thought, sodit, got to have it....especially as other examples at that price were shoddy in comparison.

Have you been doing much scouting for UK spec models and their prices?

Been looking for aprox 2 months now, not found a thing, Makes me want it even more, but if I stretch to £4,800, I will have nothing left for alarm system, stereo etc....

Seems very expensive to me, almost 5k for a rev 2, i paid 4k for my 94 standard rev 3 with 60k miles.

I considered importing but didn't want to pay the premium to the importer, shipping, uk conversion and registering fees. By buying a relatively recent import you can save all these costs. My car was imported in 2003 at a total cost of £6500 before being sold a year later for £5000 and then 6 months later to me for £4000.

I do realise you've been looking for a while though and if you can't find what you want in this country you'll have to shoulder the import costs yourself

I guess it also depends on what you plan to do with it in the future.
With that mileage it's got at least 100,00+ good miles in it......at least....10,000 miles per year...thats at least 10 years of ownership.
If you only want the car for a couple or a few years then spend less mate. Otherwise you'll never get back what you paid for it. Thats the way I'd look at it.

I consider it a classic sportscar and plan on keeping it as long as possible. However, you never know..........

Have you not tried haggling? What about asking them to put an alarm on it for you? Maybe a decent stereo?

The car is up for auction in Japan tomorow. Topspec have an agent who does the bidding. I give my max bid, and hopefully I will be successful. It may be that the car generates little interest from anyone else, and I get it cheaper. It all depends how the auction goes.

Well in that case...just stick to your budget. if you miss it....another nice one will pop along. It just takes time. You have to stick to your budget.....you'll be glad you did when you get the car you want.

I did a quick search of autoadvan's auction database and a car matching your description is shown as up for sale tomorrow. From the pictures and the auction sheet (not that i read japanese) it certainly looks to be a minter. If indeed it is the car in question, good luck it looks a peach
