My MR2 Ownership Story So Far! (Long! and 56k no no)

Post by Andy.B »

Right finally i have some decent pix's of my car that i can put up. Its a long story so please bare with me lol

I bought my MR2 back in September 06 last year after a brake up from a 8 year relationship, where i wasn't allowed to own a 2 seater sports car as it was impractical.... (We didn't have kids or anything so i didn't see the problem!!!)

Well to console my self i bought it with what money i had. I was looking for one that needed work doing to it so i could do all the work myself so i knew it was done right.
So a H reg N/A came up in my price range in Peterborough at a dealership. I went there and it was exactly what i wanted it was reasonably clean and it drove fine. Not bad for a £800 car lol

So with it home i sent to to a full geometry setup and to have the camber bolts installed. It was a different car after that!! Although while it was in the air it was pointed out that all of my bushes were worn and it could do with new drop links all round. Also i fitted a Blueflame exhaust as the old one was rusting through.

(Blueflame Pic Here)

During that time i found a set of Tein Coilovers that were being sold really cheep because one damper needed referbishment at Tein. I bought them, i was suprised to see that on them were the Tein topmounts and Tein droplinks... Was really chuffed at the price as i knew the topmounts alone new were more than what i paid for the whole setup!! They still havent made it to the car an they are currently chilling in my shed until i get the one referbished.

Well i had to do a few things to it last year like a new PAS rack and sort out the C/L and the interior light but it was trouble free motoring.

I got bored of the interior at the end of last year and purchased a half leather interior from BOK Motorsport with a few rips in the leather, so i sent it to a local trimmer to get sorted out. The job he done was brilliant!!

Straight after the leather seat find, James at 3S was selling a nice set of 18's at a nice price so i thought it would a wise idea not to turn them down as i wanted some 'street' wheels for the car. I still have the 16' Supra alloys for the track ;)

Well that leads me on to present day... Around a month or so ago i let my mate drive the car after a pub meet i went to. Well i got a phone call from him saying my engine had just let go... I wasn't to bothered as i was planning to Turbo it anyway, so just bought the transplant date a couple of months sooner.

So with that my car was towed back to mine on the back of a RAC van. The next day i was on the phone to Jason @ BOK Motorsport he managed to source me a Rev2 engine clip from one of his own cars!! (Top Man!!) bar the drive shafts and the rear hubs, as they were already sold to Patrick from Rogue Motorsport.. lol

I really wanted to do the conversion myself, i was just about to get stuck into it myself, but things started going badly wrong with family life and work.. So these things came higher priority than the car.

So keys and instructions of additional parts to be added to the MR2 were handed over to James @ 3S and work commenced. There were a few glitches with the gearbox, so that needed a slight re-build with a new speedo drive cog and new 5th gear cog. The car got a full set of polly bushes, Samco water hoses and my 5Zigin exhaust was fitted.

I got the car back a week or so ago, and am well please with it bar a few odd problems which can be expected with a conversion. Have a slight oil leak from somewhere :? and since the valet i had done it doesn't feel like its producing the same boost as it was before. :(

Anyway ill be keeping this updated when i fit new bits and have work done to it.. Next on the list is a slight subtle body kit and a re-spray to a different shade of blue ;)

So this is a massive thanks to all involved Jason @ BOK Motorsport and James @ 3S Services. I cant recommend these two guy enough for the work, parts and information they have supplied to me through my MR2 ownership.

Nice one, have fun with it. Wouldn't mind a turbo'd MR2 myself.

Roughly for just the engine conversion id say £1600 - £1800 depending on cost of the whole rear clip in the first place.
