Autoglass Continued....

Post by Goldy »

Just an update, with my autoglass problems.... (See http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... highlight= )

Well its been well over a month and a half now, and its still ongoing. Every time I phone they seemed to have lost all details of what still needs doing, and no-one in the office seems to know anything about it. I'm having to phone toyota today to get the part numbers for the bits they lost as they are incapable of doing anything. I've taken to phoning them everyday and harassing the same person to get anything done... Even he couldn't remember what was going on today, from my irate phone call last thursday which he said he would deal with personally.

I've tried to complain to head office, but the web complaints form doesnt work. And the person on the phone who I spoke to said that someone from complaints would phone me back within an hour to deal with it. IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!!

If you ask me the whole organisation is completely incompetent except for taking your money off you. ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR MR2 TO AUTOGLASS!!

RAC window replacement

Post by Richie »

Just to add to this, my windscreen cracked weekend before last so called my insurance on Tuesday and the RAC glass replacement came out on Wednesday. I had already told them the registration so they knew which glass, all I had to say was whether it was a blue or green tint.

Two guys came round, one old and one an apprentice type. The first words after the plesentries were

"This is an import isn't it ?"
"Yes"
"Well the import has the sun strip and the UK version doesn't. Also, the UK version is a Blue or Gree tint where this looks to be a grey or bronze tint"
Apprentice only words were "Looks to be a Bronzey Grey tint". Cue a look from me that promply shut him up.
"Ok, so it's either I have a Clear screen now or wait a while for a proper screen?"
"Erm, no"
"Why"
"This is a mk2 isn't it"
"Yes"
"We've been told to bring a glass for a mk1"
"But I told you registration which puts the car as a 91 and the mark change was 89"
"I know but we were told it's a mk1"
](*,)

They went away with the Chassis and Model number and a new glass had to be ordered from Mr T.

Moral of story, make sure you tell anyone working on your car EXACTLY what it is.

Also, just for reference, if you buy some wiper blades for a mk2 from Halfords, use the set for 1992-1999. The other set is 1985-1992 and is obviously wrong for a rev1.

You won't be laughing when it falls out or starts leaking water! \:D/

Had to take mine back 5 times - the edging strips they used were not originals and kept kinking and coming out..

there standard excuse was it will settle down over time - it's just been bent up in the box..

In the end I bought the trim myself from Toyota took it round to them and managed to convince them they were not using OEM trim after all..
they finally fitted it on properly on the 5th time of trying (oh and they had to replace the whole windscreen to get the trim out each time - IDIOTS !

I'd personally never go to Autowindscreen again - i'll just have to change insurance now ! 8-[

Would not use Autoglass if you paid me to be honest.
Rang RAC when back window was smashed by a stone kicked up by car in front (had side window down which was lucky or I would have been showered with glass, luckily the stone missed me as well) they wouldn't sort it out but put me through to Autoglass.
To come out to where I was on the M40 and fit a new back window to my MK1.....
Wait for it...
£640.00.
I could buy a whole f**king car for that much money and take the back screen out of it and have some spares for my baby.
Drove home (to Sussex) with back window totally spiderwebbed and eventually got a replacement for £25.00 from scrappy and got someone to fit it for £25.00.
Window stayed in for about a week despite being totally spiderwebbed. Which was nice.
Lesson: don't go straight to Autoglass if you can avoid it. Try the local people if you can wait that long.

yea i paid £238 for my drivers side window... The day i was there i overheard a phonecall about an avensis that had had all of its windows smashed! Poor bu88er... that must have been a big bill!!!

Next time I think i'll probably do it myself... I couldn't do a worse job than them.

However new toyota glass is VERY expensive from what I can gather anyway. My friend said he was charged nearly £500 for a mr2 spider windscreen from toyota!!
