I've just spent several hours trying to get an insurance quote on my MR2. Not just a good quote either - just any bloody quote!

After ringing 18 insurance companies (not including those that are closed due to the bank holiday), it would seem that many are okay with the basic stuff like alloys and exhausts, but start mentioning uprated LSDs and gearboxes and they go all quiet. Even Elephant were fine until I mentioned the BOV...

Dorset have been the only company to even give a hint of insuring me, and that's with a caveat of getting rid of my de-cat and disabling the EBD system. At this rate, I might have to get it done and put up with it.

Where do all the mega-modded MR2 owners get their insurance from? I've been nosing around at people profiles on IMOC, and can only guess that there's some magical company that will cover every modification for pennies, or that people aren't declaring their mods.

If I can't get insurance, I'll have to sell the car.

adrian flux do my std car but are ok with me increasing the boost fitting uprated coolers etc

Yeah - done that. Got the usual spiel, with many shaking their heads over a mechanical boost controller FFS!

performance direct should be fine, they insured raymond pang's beast before i broke

that was 420bhp so i doubt they mind the odd boost upgrade

WH smiths do it, tiny tiny news agent in chelmsford does it too! i can't find it local in the shops round my way, it's hit and miss.

Banzai can be found at some Esso stations (or is that Japanese Performance Mag?). Also, some tuning places sell these mags at their counters.

FWIW, I've got my "monster" insured with Liverpool Victoria. Also try AON.

Remember one thing, you *may* just have stumbled on numpties in an insurance company that would otherwise cover you if only the operator was more clued up as to what they sell.

know it dont help im with admiral on my g-limited. they are good price even tho adrian flux do it £70 cheaper but not worth my hastle to change.

call adrian flux, get a quote and if it sounds low ask for a ref number and say you want to call some other companies first then hang up, ring up again a bit later on and get another quote of adrian flux, do this a few times and eventually you might get a good quote out the buggers from there random number machine

well - i dont have a turbo, but i do have a g-ltd which was interesting enough to insure aged 25 with no mods which i wasnt quite prepared for. but once i got it... Houghton insurance take care of my car for around £500 fully comp unlimited mileage, decat + ss exhaust, induction kit, and alloys declared if thats any help?

Aww, I was 20 when I got my NA, they charged me £1300 with some mods My next renewal with 2 years NCB will be £980 apparently.

Just want to say thanks for the suggestions in this thread - I've finally got the tubby insured...through Adrian Flux! The chap on the other end of the phone was polite, helpful and knowledgable, compared to some of the other companies I rang. AF were also one of the few companies that called me "Mr Denney", rather than the usual "Mate".

I think we need to get something similar to what we had on the old site (with regard to insurance) for times like these, as I rang somewhere in the region of 30+ insurance companies.

So - £1303 TPFT on a modified '94 tubby with no claims bonus, a claim for my altercation in 2003, garaged, and I'm 31. Not bad, considering I used to pay £1500 a year for my Impreza. Hurrah! I'm back on the road again!
