Keyboard mapping sometimes dies when message writing....

Post by jrleech »

Sometimes when I'm writing/replying in IMOC, the keyboard mapping gets screwed, and when I type a ' (i.e. I'm), the find text window comes up (as if I'd pressed CTRL-F), and there is no way to type in an apostrophe. If I open notepad and type in there, it's fine, so often end up copying and pasting.

Anyone else had this?

Only seems to do it with the IMOC interface....

Cheers,
Jon

By any chance, are you using Firefox on a Windows system when this happens?
And do you have any other websites you frequent which use the same forum system?

It's just that I had this happen to me quite a bit as well under those circumstances about a year ago. I updated Firefox and all was well again, though I've no idea what actually caused it - I read somewhere it may have been down to one of the plug-ins I had running at the time and I wasn't alone in experiencing this...
Of course, it could be something completely different. But it may also be worth reinstalling Firefox if the problem persists, just to see if it's that? Then reinstall plug-ins one by one just to see whether that fixes it - or rather makes it reappear.

Yes, I am using Firefox on XP. Only happens occasionally, so not too much of a problem. Next time it happens I'll see if I can figure out what's causing it.

Yup, sounds the same as I experienced. Only occasional, but extremely annoying!

I use firefox all the time, the only thing I;ve ever seen with apostrophe is when it turns into a semicolon like it just did. But that's 'cos I press de rong button!

lol. I also use Firefox all the time, only now on Mac and Linux systems... :)

I just asked that as it sounded identical to a problem I have experienced myself - in XP and with Firefox... as I said above...

Ahha... found it :)

It's a known problem with Firefox, something to do with a bug that makes Firefox lose it's focus when opening multiple windows, especially if you start typing before they've loaded completely. Also affects cut & paste (had that too).

Minimise and Restore the window to re-gain focus apparently... seems to work!
