would anyone be able to tell me how recommended it is to get a second hand mk2 box?but for nearly double the price do u reckon its worth getting a recon?

Id rather have a good condition second hand box, ive had 2 and they have never been a problem. Recons are ok, but id prefer an unopened box.

IMOH - plain 2nd hand gearboxes are a bit of a lottery - you could end up with something that's been looked after well .... or not.
Personally, I'd pick up a normal second hand box - f its got no history I'd consider taking it to a gearbox specalist and getting them to take a look. To check it over should be farly cheap - what is (much) more expensive is getting replacement gears and syncros ...

its not just the gears that have worn out tho!its a bit of a disaster because the diff has actually shot through the gearbox casing!
