t-bar seals / weather strips

Hi all,

after silicon lubing up my t-bar rubbers, and fitting the offset guides, I still get a lot of wind noise and a little water in the car.

I'm thinking of replacing the rubbers (seem to be called weather strips in the BGB).

Has anyone done this, and know how much I'm looking at for the parts?
£50? £100?

Any info appreciated.

For a Mk1, £90 + VAT a side from Toyota. Some company in canada does them for £90-ish a pair. I'd assume the mK2 would be similar.

I called MR T for this and they wanted about £150+vat for just one side!!! U could do what i did and just feed some cable through to make it stand out a bit more.I know it sounds a bit of a bodge but if u do it right it looks fine. hth

That's a little more than I thought it would be...

Good idea about the cable though. What size / kind did you use?

I did a similar thing with the rubbers on the t-bar panels by pumping clear silicon into them.

Hi Jim, just used some black 2 core i think. Took me all of 10 mins, they are well hidden, stopped all rain and wind. And of course,the most important thing..... it cost nowt!!!!!

also EBAY stateside is selling the full rubber surround (t-bar) - i found them the other night - have a search (I'm at work so shouldn't really even be on this site ! )

Well, it was just a simple 'pull back the rubber(door seal that is before anyone else jumps in with a quip), then feed the cable in, jobs a good un!

When I got my MKII i took the T-Tops off as it was the middle of summer.

A couple of months later when it was starting to get cold and wet they started leaking.

A guy who lives in the same street as me who already had a MKII told me to use the silicon spray to re-vitalise the rubber.
Then before putting them back together, use Vaseline along all of the seals.
Worked perfectly ever since, that was last summer - winter.

I'll do the same again this year each time I take the t-tops off.

Thanks for the advice on this one. I tried the cable inside the rubber, and still have wind noise. I guess I need to check to see if it's from behind the tweeters, as I know this can be a problem.

If that doesn't fix, I'm going to buy a full set of "weatherstrips" from the US site.

With the current exchange rate I think I'm looking at around £140 plus shipping for all three strips round each door: (don't know how much shipping is, but still cheaper than over here!)
thats around the bottom of the door, around the window / t-bar, and the strip on the end of the glass panel.

If that doesn't fix the wind noise / leaking, I'll just shoot myself!

OK, so for anyone who's interested, I raised an order with www.partsdiscountwarehouse.com last week (6/4/05), and according to the FEDEX tracking page, I should receive it today or tomorrow. (11-12/4/05)

I went for the full set of weatherstrips, thats both t-bar roof strips, both small strips for the edge of the t-bar, and the strips around the lower door too.
Total cost of this from the states is:
333.60 USD = 177.031 GBP, which is around the price of 1 strip
(currency conversion by XE.COM, this doesn't appear on my c.card bill yet so it may be a little more)

I've been looking through the online BGB, and when installing the small strip along the side of the t-bar glass it says "apply adhesive". Does anyone have a clue what kind of adhesive to use? Would this be a Toyota specific product, or will I find something down the local Halfords or equivalent?

If there's any interest, I may document the weather strip removal and install (digi camera etc).
