Stick with your volk alloys, get them refurbed, and get new front tyres, cost= around £450.

What to do with alloys! Help me decide!

Post by jimGTS »

yet again, im having a think about changing alloys!
got a bit of a dilema. im a bit of a perfectionist, and i would say that my volks need a refurb, (a few minor curb marks), this im told will cost approx £260, (55 +VAT per wheel). but i also need new front tyres at some point, which will cost around £80-100 per tyre including fitting. so say total cost £450, just to keep my alloys.

whereas i could just sell the volks (16s) as is for a reasonable price, and buy brand new 17s with new tyres all round. any idea how much i could sell the volks for????? see link for pics.

id like to get a good idea on what i could possible get for these rims, to help me decide whether to keep them or get rid, and get some nice 17s.

just so you know, there rays engineering volk racing alloys, deep dish, 16s, rears wider than the fronts (but dont know exact width sorry, prob, 7 front, 8 rear).

http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... 89&start=0

id only be looking to spend around £800 on new 17s with tyres, so any opinions on what to get would be great!

stick with volks because they are 16" handling will start to suffer with 17s.

nah 16" are the best combo for the '2 with nice fat tyres. (for handling)

Looks in my case, gotta be 18"s

cheers guys/girls, one thing i do have to say is that i certainly wouldnt be able to afford to get brand new 17inch volks for sure. and i wouldnt be able to afford the same sort of quality either, as i aint loaded, lol.

god knows how much my 16s cost the previous jap owner, so if i were to get bigger wheels, it would only be something at like £100-£130 a corner.

i did the same poll on mr2oc, and everyones voted the opposite! they all voted get cheap 17s!

KEEP THEM! I've just started to refurb mine myself, with a little help on the painting side of things. It's amazing how light volks are, mine split apart really easily and the main rim weighs bu88er all. Doing mine a nice graphite colour and polishing the rim. Stick with them and make em look good, jap rims rule!

righto people, think what im gona do is keep the volks, and try to get some second hand coilovers.
think what im worried about is the fact that the 16s dont fill the arches, and by dropping the car more than its already is (believe it or not, its currently on a -40mm drop), i think would fill the arches more. and id have no need to get bigger wheels. id be more than happy about that.

the coilovers could be bought later this year.
