Toyota red?

Post by Rev2_mike »

Im sure this has been covered before but i couldnt find it - my car is just about to be serviced, for a coolant change how totally neccessary is it to have toyota red coolant? Is there any difference with this and normal glycol based coolant? How much is it going to cost to get (is it 7L?) of coolant from toyota?

nope just use glycol based coolant unless you like paying over the top prices for the same thing in red from toyota.

12litres, though experience suggests that you won't fit anywhere near like that in there.

Just by a concentrate glycol coolant from halfords. Then add water. I'll bet that if you drain the system that you can't get 5litres of coolant in there! Theres a lot of pipework and though you can drain the system from the rad end there will still be a lot of coolant left in there. Not that this is a major problem really.

In summary buy a 5L concentrate coolant from halfords.

£14 per 5 litre bottle I paid. Guy gave me two, then I made a face and said, I'm going to need 3 for 12 litres. So he chucked in the 3rd for free! Who says Toyota dealers are bad?

And I got about 11-12 litres into it (Mk1). Plus a litre or so on the ground!

Western Toyota in Edinburgh. Sorry, hardly local to you!

But very helpful, good for advice too - such as how to seal my roof seals and avoid paying them £200 for new ones, how much the engine and gearbox weighs, where the asbestos is, etc etc.
