Go for a coupe. They tend to be cheaper (though not by that much) plus you don't have the associated problems with leaking t-bars.

12 months mot, clutch 'n box which will let you change gear, not pulling you under braking, shouldn't cost lots for a decent example. Ours has actually become a daily drive now, does about 40 miles a day, some A road, some motorway - it's probably happier now than it was when it was just sitting around :)

Go track it on sunday, drive home, then drive to work on monday - can't beat that!

Coupe = cheaper, no leaking problems and lighter.

I wouldn't overly worry Geoff, not many MOT places will pick up on a rotten front bumper bar.
nope, they don't, since it isn't *structural*.. they also didn't mention the bumper retaining strip dangling down on the side with the dent..

My old blue one ahd the rotten inner bumper.....best bit was when toyota quoted me £200 for one......I had to chuckle. In the end I had to silicone seal my sidelight/indicators to the bumper..... :lol:

I bought my car as an MOT failure for £350, it was pretty good mechanically and had the rear arches replaced and various other bits around the car touched up and sprayed. I did this all in for £1210. I guess i could add a few hundred more in odds and sods that i did to it to get it where it is now, but overall it hasn't cost me loads and i've pretty much done it on a fairly tight budget.

This may be another option for you, if you have the time to do some DIY and don't mind the wait while the car is in the bodyshop. Worth considering i think. What you need to bear in mind is that any MK1 with good rear arches has probably had some work done on it, so my thinking was why not buy one that needs it doing and at least that way the car body should be in good repair for many years to come.

If I could afford to run two cars I'd buy a solid mechanics mr2 with iffy b'work. As I need a car for everyday use I cant afford to use bodyshops to repair...due to the car being off the road...more than cost.

Cheers for all the info everyone. Im searching for examples of sales at the moment....re-doing my homework and then when the time comes I'll be ready to go and see.... :)

Mine was rotten.....the bloke said it was the cleanest MR2 of its age he had ever seen....he said he simply couldnt find a single fault...not even slight......but he didnt know the inner metal bumper was rotten. :wink:

Best of luck with the search Steven. Took me a fair while to find one, but got there in the end. I have to say though, I wish I had been a member of this club when I was looking !

I still am a member of the MR2 mk1 club. Met some nice people there and bought my old car who was selling it on there too.
I did know about this club but never got around to having a look/joining etc.
Im more than happy to wait for the right car. :wink:
