There has been some debate on what tyres fit on what size rims. I am fortunate enough to have acces to the ETRTO manual, this manual is written by the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation and is used by all manufacturers of full vehicles, rims and tyres. It covers everything from earth moving equipment to space savers and from 18 wheelers to motorbikes. The Manual contains guidelines for fitment, which includes clearance envelopes that manufacturers use when packaging the wheel and tyre (these envelopes cover all known tyre deformations and fling), load ratings, speed rating, tyre and rim construction and of course what size tyres fit on what size rims.
Of course it may be possible to stray outside these guidelines but the tyres wil not be working within their design parameters (same as running very low pressures for example) and a correctly fitting and functioning tyre will always give better results.
I will post up some popular sizes for MR2's, in 15-18 inch, as well as the recommended ETRTO size combination, if you would like more information or I have missed some sizes feel free to ask, I hope its of some use!

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
I hope you don't mind me jumping on your thead but thought it might also be useful to add information on the closest size tyres to stock rolling radius (RR), for the more common choices.
I thought it made sense to add it here. I have made reference to your info above. If you think there is a better way to show this then let me know, I can always delete my post...
Please note the information I have given is simply conversions using a calculator, and what you decide to run on your car is your own decision! Running a tyre size larger or smaller than stock RR will affect your acceleration, top speed, speedo and fuel effeciency amongst others, allbeit maybe only by a small amount.
You should also remember that whilst a wider tyre within recommendations will give you more grip, this will mean your '2 gives you less warning before losing rear end traction, and this will probably exaggerate the effects. Your choice will therefore affect over-/under-steer behaviours. Remember to take into account ride comfort and cost of tyres when choosing too.
If buying new rims, remember to check they will fit with your setup.
Tyre sizes for the fronts:
15" wheels
195/55/15, 5.5j - 7j recommended 6j (standard size Toyota rev 2 onwards)
205/50/15 = -10mm less than stock RR / 5.5j - 7.5j recommended 6.5j
205/55/15 = +11mm bigger than stock RR / 5.5j - 7.5j recommended 6.5j
16" wheels
205/45/16 = -5mm less than stock RR / 6.5j - 7.5j recommended 7j

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
Is this not going to be made a sticky
Do we have to search for it everytime someone asks about this topic?

Submit it to the KB. Thats what the KB is there for. Sticky posts are more for site specific topic.

Ah! Didn't know that! Thanks.
Skinthespin, its your thread so do you want to do this? I can also do it on your behalf...

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
Yeah if you can Leeroy, not sure what to do myself, its a shame it can't be made a sticky though as I think what we have written so far could just be astart point and be aded to by other people, making it much more useful, don't know what other people think but I think things tend to get forgotten in the KB!
Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
If we had a stickie for every bit of good info we would have a site full of stickies.
The KB is the correct place for it. People can comment on a KB article to add new info to it just like a post.
Things only get forgotten in the KB if people do not link to them when a question that has an answer in the KB is not linked to.
Personally I am going to try push for better topic title & question on the forums and better use of the KB.
To add to the KB follow the link up top...go to the category you feel fits it best. Then click on the submit article. The page is 99% the same as a post.

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
No Tim, the only thing specified on the tyre is the maximum pressure, and pressures are something you really have to just play around with until you get something that feels right. If your not comfortable with that then just run a pressure that someone else has run and just use that as a start point.
The pressures can also vary depending on load conditions (weight of vehicle), driving conditions (track/race/road/snow/mud etc etc), tyres sizes and of course handling requirements.
I guess its something someone could do as a little bit of research I guess, maybe on a trackday?

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
yeah i'll admit its something i don't have any experience in so was wandering what was best.
I'm running 215/35/18 and 245/35/18 eagle f1's at the mo and running 29/32psi similar to standard.
Just wandering if the tyre manufactures set an ideal pressure for there tyre.

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
No mate, like I say it depends on a number of factors, so just specify a maximum (probably 70psi or thereabouts on your tyres), and vehicle manufacturers fiddle with pressures a bit up to the last minute too.
What you are running seems pretty reasonable though, so all i'd say is just try tweeking it by a couple of psi and see what happens, just use where you are now as a start point. To do it properly is a pain though and time consuming, when we are doing chassis testing you would make one change, record the differences (if any), then make another change and do it all again. Then you might even go back to where you started to check you have actually been making things better, you'd be suprised the amount of times your actually making things worse but have forgotten what they were like in the beginning!

yeah i know what you mean, well mines a road going car so getting my suspension all sorted first is going to make the world of difference. The allignments that bad you can visually see its all over the place.

Bummer, I was really hoping ti squeeze some 245/35/18's on my 7.5" rims but looks like I'd be risking serious danger
Be nice if some one else made 235/35's though, only one brand and they're £180 each!

ok so this is now in the KB. I've made a link to here so that the if this thread is added to, you'll obviously see all useful info.
If and when this thread gets lost and goes under, suppose it might be an idea just to copy and paste the most relevant info into the kb article...

Re: TYRE SIZES - WHAT TYRES FIT WHAT RIMS - STICKY PLEASE
What we are missing here are offset details.
Standard offset and what offsets are required for the wheels to be flush with the arches, depending on what width rims you have, and ideally whether running stock suspension or coilovers. Giving as many options as possible. For example (and these are not correct!):
Coilovers
Front wheels
16" wheels
205/45/16 on 7" wheels will require offset of 35
215/45/16 on 7.5" wheels will require offset of 38
17" wheels
205/40/17 on 7.5" wheels will require offset of 35
215/40/17 on 7" wheels will require offset of 32
215/40/17 on 8" wheels will require offset of 37
18" wheels
....
Rears
....
Standard suspension
Front wheels
16" wheels
17" wheels
....
etc etc.
Can anyone contribute on this?

I only put down what tyres on what rims as there was so much confusion, I have no idea what offsets are available, but its a good idea as its also something thats asked loads, so go for it ppl!
