Re-spray / touchup?

Post by Kezza_2Turbo »

Hey all,

My Green Tubby (the bizarre dark green colour) is scratched to bu88ery, so I need solutions!!

It also has a nice chip on the wing the size of a 50p becasue of someone kicking it! (I live in a lovely area!!)

I am wondering whether its feasible to get all the scratched filled/covered and the chip done or whether its easier just to get a re-spray!?

Unfortunately I have just moved house so money isn't flowing very well, so cost effective options would be appreciated.

Also if anyone can recommend someone good and cheap to do the work in Kent would be greatly appreciated!!

Is it worth it if you are still in a "Bad area" May get kicked/scratched again?

I know I know - I've asked myself the same question many times, but i always get the same answer:

Its my baby - I can't stand it looking bad, and it DOES look bad with all these scratches!!

Unfortunately there is now a list of things that need to be done to it!!

I used to enjoy running about in an old knacker for the reason that it didnt matter who abused it It just didnt matter!

Maybe you can get a garage?

Mine is in the bodyshop at the moment for similar reasons, as well as getting rid of rust spots on the roof.

The guy said that the chips depended on the type of paint they used, water based no chance, but other than that it would be possible with a paint polish ??? to sort it out. They've quoted me £280 for that work, along with another £180+materials if they need to do anything serious with the roof skin(s).

Farecla G3

I had someone key my 2 from front to back and was thinking the same as you are now !!
I posted the same question and the helpful IMOCers pointed me towards Farecla G3.
First I got one of those paint pen packs and some Wet'n'dry 1500Grit from Halfords.
I applied several thin coats of paint using the brush end and let it dry for a couple of weeks. Then carefully wet'n'dry it with a small block of wood
(I know it sounds scary but once you start you'll get used to the amount of pressure you need to use). VERY IMPORTANT remember to put enough coats on to more than cover the scratches !!!!!!
Your car will look a mess at this stage, with lots of swirly scratches instead of one or two big ones, but then apply G3 with a cloth and gently rub it on the scratches made by the wet'n'dry and keep spraying your car with plenty of water as G3 can burn through your paintwork !
Do this many times until scratches vanish. You must then polish out the remenance of the G3 with Mer (or similar polish) then wax and job done !!
G3 cost me £24 from Screwfix online delivered next day free !!
Wet'nDry + Paint Pen set £30 ish
Hope this helps
I will be posting pics of my effort on here asap !

That sounds really good - however it sounds like a lot of hard work - maybe a summer job!!!

I'll print that out and keep hold of it
