What are these pipes for?

Post by Martha Foker »

Hey all
Anybody know what the 2 pipes that lead off the main induction pipe are for? One goes to a plastic box and to the top of the engine, the other goes down the passenger side of the engine and kinda dissapears in to a mass of other pipes.

Cheers

I think one is linked to the PCV (crank case breather), ie it blows oil in and the other might be some sort of EGR, though if i'm honest i've no idea. Unless you're looking at the standard recirc pipe on an OEM bov, then there's a 3rd near it.

One is the outlet from the oem Blow Off Valve. this type recirculates the air back inot the system rather than making that whoosh sound sported by so many turbo'd car owners.

The other pipe will be the PCV (positive crankcase vent?) Gas from the rocker cover is vented back into the system here. It is frowned upon at high states of tune but out of the factory is used as a way of keeping emmisions down.

Cheers for the replies guys, the reason i ask is because i have red samcos but since putting in a berk intercooler the air filter to turbo pipe is the only one still on the car. I'd like to sell the samco hoses as a set and i have some alloy pipe for the filter to turbo can i put breather filters on the other 2?

easiest way mate is to get a catch can for your PCV gases which will everything clean and if you fit a breather to the catchcan outlet itll do away with the need for the return.

youll need a different BOv if you want to do away with that return, one that vents to atmosphere. Beware though if you have a rev1/2 car as the fitting of one of these can cause bad running in terms of consumption, idle and smoothness. Do search mate, its all there.
