split the for sale/wanted even more

Post by crazylegs »

why can we not split the for sale/wanted sections into model specific areas? i ,as a mk1 owner dont need to sift through the mk2 ads and i`m sure the mk2 people feel the same. similarly mk2 na and turbo. any thoughts ?

Splitting mk2 na and tubby would be a step too far as many components are common between the two cars however the mk2 stuff definately needs separating out from everything else as there's just so much of it compared to other marks. Even having one forum for mk2 and one seperate for mks 1&3 combined would be a vast improvement.

At the very least can we have a dropdown box added to the form for posting in the for sale forum which forces people to select what type of car their item is relevant to, this could then be appended to the front of the subject field (so you wouldn't even need an extra field in the database).

some people like to see it all. If you want to filter, you could always use the search facility and mk1, mk2, or mk3 for the relevant section only.

sellers should perhaps be encouraged to tag their titles more appropriately , but then it's up to them (and very much like ebay - if you don't list it properly, you probably won't get so many people viewing it)

Overly complicated IMHO - as Anna says you can always search to filter.

'Overly complicated' is having to search for "mk1", "mark1", "mark 1", "mk 1", "AW11", "AW 11", "mk1a", "mk1b" and every other conceivable variant which anyone might add to their thread just to get a list of items which might be relevant to the car I own. Even then you're going to miss items as there are plenty of threads in the for sale forum which don't specify any mark.

Oh and searching the whole of IMOC for "mk1" doesn't return a single post.

sorry I'm with Toni and Anna on this one. the way we currently have the forsale sections split is perfect in my opinion. I find it useful to have everything grouped together, I spend a lot of time looking for Mk1 and Mk2 turbo parts.

if you are unsure if something is Mk1/2/3 then just click on the advert and everything will become clear.

I dont want to have to search 2 extra sections (might be looking for Mk3 wheels as well! )

Lots of people on IMOC have mk1s and mk2s and I'd like to think they would feel the same as me, they can look in one section for parts for both

please leave it as it is!!

That is exactly my problem with the current system.

99% of the badly labelled posts relate to mk2 stuff. If you're trying to find that elusive mk1 bargain it gets disheartening opening 99 threads you aren't interested in just to find that 1% that you might be.

But when that elusive one comes along.... happy days! :D

it takes 2 secs to decide whether a post is Mk1/2/3, and if you are on the forum as much as me you probably click into that section a few times a day to look for that elusive bargain.. in which case you only have to search thorugh the most recent posts.

Granted for a less frequent forum visitor he/she is going to have to do a bit of trawling, but thats half the fun

The other option I think we have is forcing people to mark their posts as MK1, 2 or 3... :-k

It'd certainly help. Technically it shouldn't be too difficult to add a dropdown to the template for posting in that forum. With options for 'mk1', 'mk2', 'mk3' and 'all'. People would have to select one of them which would then automatically be appended to the start of the thread title.

I do think a system of clear labelling would be of assistance.
Not too sure that splitting it according to each marque is a good idea.
I for one have a MK1 and a MK2 and would find it annoying.

Labelling may help, so long as new owners don't get confused between mk1,2,3 and different revisions of the mk2...

I think it would need to be split according to the marques, not according to revisions - otherwise it would be too complicated.

I will ask our net bods...I think making people select MK1, 2 or 3 could help...except perhaps if you wanted to build a MK1 with a MK2 tubby engine? LOL
