Motorcycle gears on a 2

Hey people

Ok, I'm just wondering if this has been done at all. I know its done on some drag cars and the like, but is it possible on the MR2?

My thinking being, on a motorbike, as you change gear, it cuts the ignition for a fraction of a second allowing for lightening gear changes. What would have to be done to a car to allow this?

on a normal bike the ignition is not cut when you change gear i think you are thinking of the quickshifter kits you can get that let you change gear without closing the throttle or using the clutch hth

I was meant to write about the quickshifter kit, but you knew what I meant!

So, you think its possible to fit?

Just, in theory it would shave probably a good .5 of a second of your 1/4mile time if not more!

My Bike (Fazer 600) does not cut the ignition, but does allow clutchless gear shifts up through the box 1-6, but not back down again. I think that they are just made that way (Syncromesh and all that) This does allow for rapid gear changes and I can hit 60mph in under 4 seconds! Cant beet the acceleration of a bike!!

Yeah ya can! Not from a standing start though.
I had a go at a 900cc Fazer on the M1 not so long ago. 
Reeled him in nice and slow  8) 

Bikes are just sooo much fun though. I always get of grinning from ear to ear  :lol:

They dont do a 900 fazer, its 600 or 1000, and I doubt he was trying!

Got 141bhp from a machine weighing 208kg, will do 0-60 in 3.6sec and top out 154mph all standard! And its not even a sports bike, its a sports tourer.

What were you racing him in anyhow?

Just a note about quickshifters, it has neen known for disabled folks to use quickshifters on bikes so they can ride with only one leg or arm!

I've a bike too (yamaha R6) and when I'm going quick I dip the throttle for a split second and upchange without the clutch, but as has been said already you can't go down the gears this way. And I agree about accelleration! a modern 600cc sportsbike will beat many ferraris for 0-60! And 160mph top speed is pretty cool too

In the 2 turbo, from about 90-155 on the clock. And he was definately trying.

bike gearboxes are constant mesh which makes a hell of a difference in the way they work

If it was a diversion, well say no more! They are a pile of xxxx!!
basically a big commuter.

Fazer however is a diferent breed.

I find my 600 Fazer a briliant all rounder. Its quick, handles well, very comfortable to ride, will commute or do fast back lane scratch!

I am really pleased with it.

Only problem is I have recently suffered a bad car accident, and have a compression injury to my spine. So will be lucky to get back on the bike before the summer..........GUTTED!

Keeping her warm however, battery topped up by optimate etc...

R6 looks so uncomfortable, and they only deliver power in the red section of revs. I prefer a little more mid range torque. Beautiful looking bike though, the r6.

Whenever I go on a bike, its just for fun, so I usually go for something small like an NC30 or something.

My mum doesn't like me riding bikes

R6 v R1 styling wise I'd have to go for the R1. I just think the R6 lights look a bit wide. If you see what I mean.

I e-mailed julien for info, but have had no response yet. However, his prices were a tad high.

Also spoke with Bob from rising sun, also helpful, but not been able to get over to see his stock due to back injury.

Topspec have been reccomended twice now by members, and seem the cheapest importers I have found, so tempted to go with them.

I would prefer to find my car in uk though, buy from an enthusiast. Will keep looking anyhow.
