WATER DAMAGE ! ! ! ! ! ! :(

Post by Frustrated Pilot »

Hi all,

thought I would install my speakers and amps into the new car...
(from my MR2 - thats the connection)

However, asking my GF where they are as I couldnt find them.. she told me that they were out in the garden....

"ummm, why?" I asked. "I told you I had to put them there and you said it was ok."

      quickly turned to :x :x :x :x followed by       then a bit of     when I realised the rain had been watering the 6x9's and amp.

The speakers appear to be ok, but the amp looks a little rusty in places and droplets of water was sitting on the chips.

Am I right in assuming I must commit it to the bin?

the main board is drying in the airing cupboard now...

opinions...

shooting the gf is not an option ...

cheers again

Let it dry off and using a spare battery see if it powers up. If it does and doesn't go into protection or release any of the magic smoke then you should be ok to try connecting it in the car.

RE: the 6x9s do the cones move freely when you push them and is there a scraping sound, if the first gets a yes and the latter a no, they may be ok. All depends on the materials used in manufacture as to how well they'll hold up to the rain.
