Who's best to insure my kit car with?

Post by shafster »

i've just realised that my trd mr2 can be insured as a kit car because it started out as a rev1 3sge na and here's what it's had done to it

1. engine, gearbox, driveshafts, ecu, hubs, looms, shocks, exhaust
2. wheels, brakes, springs
3. bov, decat, induction
4. 10 piece bodykit
5. interior - seats, dash, shortshift, stereo

now as the car is going be used as a weekend car and parked in a garage mostly, i guess it can be insured as a kit car as i'll be doing less than 4000 miles per year in it.

so my question is, who is the best kit car insurance company to insure with?

Buy Kitcar magazine and look through the classifieds, there's bound to be loads of insurance co's advertising.

Or Google for a forum.

Which Kit Magazine might be more readily available, and is the defacto standard mag for the industry.

Off the top of my head, kitcar insurance companies include:
Adrian S Flux
Osbourne & Sons

I forget the rest, it's been a while since I was in the industry...

With regards to premiums from these guys, I think you'll get a PLEASANT shock! Kitcar insurance tends to be VERY cheap, because they assume that you're building and maintaining the car yourself, and will be able to source the parts cheaply. I once got a quote for £400 to insure a £30k Ultima with 400bhp! That was when I was a LOT younger, too! ;)

Try Footman James 0845 458 6791.

They insure my modified Tubby.
